Prepares project estimates and value engineering for designated projects. Produces cost estimates on a variety of projects. Coordinates estimating work with sales, engineering and operations personnel. Gathers and interprets project specifications to provide material take-offs and project schedules.
Essential Job Functions:
· Reviews all documents to become familiar with all aspects of a project.
· Communicates with data suppliers such as clients, engineers, vendors and employees to obtain relevant information concerning the project.
· Prepares and reviews final reports for accuracy and clarity.
· Manages or prepares any scheduling requirements.
· Ensures compliance with all relevant codes.
· Meets with clients and deliver estimate report presentations.
· Determines material specifications, assemblies, design implications and phasing of work.
· Stays abreast of current trends, code changes, etc. through training and development.
· Nationally recognized professional certifications preferred.
· Demonstrated experience and proficiency in electrical and/or mechanical systems knowledge, working drawings, design development, take off development and computer estimating systems.
· Must be proficient at reading and understanding electrical specifications, plans, bid alternates, and complete preparation of the estimated from take off through recap.
· Must be able to complete an electrical estimate without guidance.
· Excellent communications skills, including ability to write proposal letters and/or bid forms.
· Proficiency with estimating software; experience with McCormick estimating software preferred.
· Extensive technical knowledge of the construction methods and systems involved and ability to master a variety of cost estimating methods.
· Ability to multi task and deal with changing priorities in a professional manner.
Key Must Have’s:
· Must have 5-10 years of electrical estimating.
· Knowledge of Commercial and Industrial Methods.
· 5-10 years of experience using Electrical Estimating Software.
o They will put their estimates into their accounting system (ViewPoint Vista)
· 5-10 years’ experience in breaking down total price into segments of the project for both company purposes and for customer requirements.
· Ability to review subcontractor and vendor quotes to identify scope gaps or duplication.
· Perform takeoff using on-screen takeoff software. (looking at drawings/layouts in a cad viewer)
· Perform estimate using McCormick software. (estimating software)
o Can build take-off custom assemblies.
· Ability to perform take-off quality testing – to find errors in takeoff.
· Can perform qualifying conversations with customer to refine our scope and proposal to better fit their needs.
· Must have intermediate Excel spreadsheet software skills and have proficiency with other MS Office software including Word, MS Project, Adobe, Visio, Financial Systems, etc.
· Will be OK working in an office environment
· Be able to read spec drawing
· Attend pre-bid meeting
· Be able to put together value engineering estimates
· Strong oral and written abilities
· Self-motivated yet can work well with team members
· Work well under pressure and have the ability to deal well with changing requirements.
· Interact with clients and vendors
· Mentor and assist the junior estimators
· Travel: Yes, Less than 10%, Local travel within 100 miles of Scottsdale.
