Accountant I – Payroll & Accounts Receivable

Under the guidance of the Accounting Manager and the Director of Payroll, the Accountant I – Payroll and Accounts Receivable carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: payroll support, managing the time clock system, accounts receivable for non-student accounts, and account reconciliation. The Accountant must be sensitive to serving the University needs with the objective of supporting administration and employee goodwill.

Candidates will be invited to demonstrate a willingness to support the Christian, Catholic, Benedictine mission of the University of Mary.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities Include:

  • Processes payroll and acts as back up to the Director of Payroll.  Inputs and manages data from electronic time clock system.  Contacts employees and supervisors regarding any corrections needed.  Data entry input payroll changes for employee and create records for new hires. Answers employee questions and gives guidance on payroll and benefits policy.
  • Accounts Receivable:   Handles all non-student accounts receivable, including Transact, invoice recording and reconciliation, and receipt of incoming payments, and the employee meal plan program.
  • Maintains human resource information system records and compiles reports from the database (Jenzabar, Balanced Comp, WPS benefits enrollment portal, timekeeping system).
  • Accounting Duties: Journal entries and account reconciliations. Meal plan data imports, maintenance, and reconciliation.  May assist with benefits billing reconciliation and special projects as needed.
  • Assist in maintaining payroll records and filing and verifications of employment.

Desired Minimum Qualifications, Education, and Experience include:

  • Required: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field/work experience.
  • Preferred: A minimum of two years of previous accounting/bookkeeping or payroll experience.
  • Upholds and supports the Christian, Catholic, Benedictine mission of the University of Mary
  • Supports the ongoing implementation of Ex Corde Ecclesiae, the apostolic constitution on Catholic colleges and universities.
  • Builds a culture of ready and earnest hospitality in the Office of Financial Affairs and throughout the university, in accord with Saint Benedict’s admonition that all be received as Christ.

Knowledge and Skills Required:

  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software applications, especially Word and Excel
  • Ability to learn and be proficient with in-house software applications, such as Jenzabar and CBORD
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy in all aspects of work
  • Demonstrated knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and policies related to accounting and payroll
  • Ability to relate and communicate with all levels of employees through excellent listening and communication skills that engender trust and support
  • Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to research and analyze various types of data information
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work while meeting multiple deadlines
  • Strong organizational, time management, analytical and communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience/maturity to handle confidential and sensitive information
