Job Description

Position Summary:

Discovery Life Sciences is a trusted provider of bioanalytic and biospecimen services to hundreds of customers across the U.S. and around the world. The LIMS Project Manager (PM) contributes to our mission by managing projects supporting the implementation and operation of a global laboratory information management system (LIMS) including supporting processes and interfaces. Once established, the PM will continue as a system owner for the LIMS and supervise maintenance, process optimization steps, and keep the system compliant to GCLP regulations. The LIMS Project Manager organizes cross functional teams and drives the successful completion of milestones. Working with key Discovery stakeholders, the PM will facilitate defining project outputs and requirements and then ensure they are delivered on time, within budget and adhere to quality and compliance standards. This role requires domain knowledge, independent thinking, drive, and excellent communication skills. The ideal candidate has experience managing multi-departmental life sciences initiatives, brings a strategic mindset to each project, focuses on mobilizing diverse teams to achieve business results, and is a proven communicator with people at all levels of an organization.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Computer Science, or degree plus equivalent experience in a related field with knowledge in Biology or related sciences; OR Biology degree with high IT affinity / informatics skills
  • Certifications/License/Registration Requirements : PMI Project Management Professional (PMP), Scrum Alliance CSM, or similar certification is preferred


Qualification/Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience in a corporate or life sciences organization /environment (multi-site preferred) with demonstrated success managing lab projects and meeting /driving stated project goals on time
  • Advanced understanding of project management and lifecycle methodologies and tools such as (not all required) Agile, ITIL, Scrum, Microsoft Project, Jira, Teams, SharePoint with the ability to assess when a particular methodology should be applied for the greatest chance of project success
  • Demonstrated track record and leadership experience for implementation of LIMS
  • Proficient in the guidelines for the validation of computerized systems (e.g., GAMP5)
  • Excellent technical, analytical, problem-solving and project management skills
  • Strong attention to detail, outstanding organizational skills, and the capacity to prioritize multiple tasks effectively.
  • Advanced understanding of Microsoft Office Applications
  • General familiarity with core business system functions and data sets (e.g., CRM, ERP, QMS, etc.), including comprehension of data process flow.
  • Proficiency in leveraging influencing skills across various departments within an organization.
  • Knowledge of business principles and techniques of administration, organization, and management in the life sciences industry is a plus.
  • Exceptional project and time management skills, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be organized, self-motivated, have strong attention to detail and be passionate about technology
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, fostering effective collaboration within a team-oriented environment.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Generation of detailed project documentation for implement of user requirements for the LIMS in close collaboration with IT, LIMS vendor, and consultants.
  • Close interaction with the LIMS vendor, third-party consultants, QA, IT, and operations leaders on all levels of the project to ensure the successful delivery of projects and their expected business benefits-based project management guidelines and best practices through the entire project lifecycle
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary field with scientists, lab technicians, pathologists, IT, QA, Finance, and Legal.
  • Perform project discovery, identify business priorities and activities, and create conclusions and recommendations in support of relevant implementation planning; travel onsite to key Discovery locations as needed to understand processes / sample workflows and requirements.
  • Create and drive optimization plans, definition of work package and supervision of the work
  • Supervise delivery of validation documentation and change control processes.
  • Serve as the system owner for Global LIMS
  • Schedule system maintenance, coordination of change orders, and compliance updates
  • Review approved project proposals to determine or further define aspects of the project, including time frame, budget considerations, staffing requirements /limitations and allotment of available departmental resources to various project phases
  • Establish project governance and navigate project hierarchy to facilitate decision-making, issue escalation and /or resolution, and status communication within a project, in coordination with senior Discovery management
  • Provide leadership and motivation to project team members throughout the project life cycle and confer with project related staff to establish a work plan for project activities, iterations, or phases
  • Work with functional managers to resource the project; Arrange for recruitment or assignment of project personnel to the project team and create the business cases to support the resources required
  • Direct, assign, and coordinate activities of project personnel to ensure project implementation progresses on schedule and within budget
  • Hold all parties accountable in an honest and transparent manner throughout the implementation or project.
  • Understand and help create and manage budgets, invoicing, tracking, and reporting for all aspects of the project in coordination with senior Discovery leadership
  • Identify and schedule project deliverables, milestones and required activities, tasks and effectively lead and facilitate meetings with project related individuals and groups, including project teams, senior leadership, and external vendors
  • Create project documentation, including: Project Charters, Governance Charts / Roles and Responsibilities, Resource Plans, Meeting Notes, Project Schedules, Action Items, Presentations, Weekly Status Reports, Lessons Learned and other documents relevant and in support of successful outcomes
  • Monitor project activities, ensuring the currency, quality, and integrity of the information, while providing consistency in content across the enterprise
  • Ensure that project goals are accomplished and in line with business objectives.
  • Conduct risk assessment & mitigation, establish and implement project communication plans
  • Maintain and consistently demonstrate a general knowledge of company and industry guidelines, processes, security methodologies, PMO best practices and procedures
  • Coordinate staff training programs and definition of training plans
  • Ensure compliance with all laws and regulations applicable to the Company and its operations
  • Other duties as required or assigned by supervisor, which may occasionally be unrelated to the position described here.
  • Consistent and predictable attendance is an essential function of the position, including a willingness to travel up to 25% of the time to remote offices and collaborate directly with vendors and/or clients on-site
