The Discovery School is a Reggio Emilia inspired early childhood program that serves children ages 2 years, 7 months to 6 years old. We offer preschool, pre-k, and kindergarten classes. We also offer a summer program for children aged 6 to 11 on our campus called The Discovery School Day Camp. Our approach to learning values children's innate sense of wonder, and allows them to construct meaning of the world around them through play and exploration. Our unique nature campus provides the ideal setting for learning and discovery.

Position: Program Support

Reports to: Camp Director

Time Commitment: M-F (27 hrs/week) 6/3/24-8/2/24

Compensation: A weekly stipend of $405 ($15/hr) paid every 2 weeks.

PRIMARY PURPOSE:
  • Before care (8:00am - 8:45am)
  • Set up daily special (8:45am - 9:30am)
  • Preparation and distribution of lunches and snacks (9:30am - 11:45pm)
  • Clean up and preparations for the following day (11:45pm - 12:15pm)
  • Supervise lunch and rest time for full day playful pollinators (12:15pm - 12:45pm)
  • Monday grocery run (1:00pm - 3:00pm)


PROFESSIONALISM:
  • Report to work well rested, on time and maintain consistent attendance.
  • Establishes positive and professional relationships with colleagues.
  • Show initiative in problem solving and be open to new ideas.
  • Ability to follow directions and work under pressure
  • Communicate necessary absences with as much advance notice as possible.


HEALTH AND SAFETY
  • Maintain a clean and organized kitchen
  • Report any kitchen accidents to the director in a timely manner.
  • Understand and follow the Discovery School Health and Safety Guidelines
  • Familiarize yourself with weekly camper allergy information and lunch choices
  • Maintain a safe kitchen environment at all times


OPERATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Before Care:
  • monitoring the safety and engaging in play with campers in the gym


  • Set up Daily Special:
  • This involves a variety of responsibilities depending on the day, for example, making a campfire, setting up a water slide, hiding treasure hunt clues, putting up soccer goals or setting up an ice cream sundae bar. .


  • Preparation and distribution of lunches and snacks:
  • Set up work an organized station
  • Recieve food deliveries, ie. pizza hut.
  • Daily washing and chopping of vegetables and fruits
  • Assemble up to 64 lunches for ease of distribution by 11:30am
  • Assuring counselors have daily snacks for campers


  • Clean up and preparations for the following day:
  • Sweeping
  • Sanitizing work surfaces
  • Cleaning all kitchen preparation knives and boards
  • Removal of all kitchen, lunch and gym garbages
  • Restocking and tidying up the breakfast table
  • Checking perishable food inventory


  • Monday grocery trip:
  • Grocery purchases from Aldi on Route 8
  • Drive all food deliveries directly back to the school kitchen
  • Label and stock all ingredients on shelves and refridgerator so they are organized and easily accessible
  • Maintain a well organized, safe and attractive kitchen environment
  • Upload all receipts to google drive


Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 18+
  • Current driver's license and car for transporting food products
  • High school diploma
  • Experience in kitchen operations preferred
  • Good physical condition and endurance
  • Obtain all necessary clearances (linked below)
