A little bit about the role:

ORBCOMM is a leading global provider of industrial Internet of Things (IoT) and Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communication solutions that remotely track, monitor and control fixed and mobile assets. We are looking for a QA Strategic Initiatives Engineer to join our Quality Assurance team in Sterling, Virginia. The individual will be working alongside the broader QA team to review new technologies, tools, and methodologies to improve our test coverage, test speed, and overall time to market while maintaining the built in quality of ORBCOMM products.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Manage special projects including developing and maintaining project timelines, conducting research, performing analyses, producing reports, and providing recommendations.
    1. Investigate new technologies and tools to help improve test coverage and time to market.
    2. Investigate new processes and methodologies to help improve test coverage and time to market.
  • Provides support and guidance to leadership regarding the management and coordination of strategic initiatives and special projects.
  • Prepares communications, remarks, updates, reports, presentations, and meeting materials for the Sr. Director of Quality Assurance
  • Analyze internal test coverage for trends and areas of improvement.
  • Analyze customer issues and trends to help drive areas of focus.
  • Collaborate with QA leads and stakeholders around the world to articulate and implement continuous improvement via new technologies and processes.
  • Proactively look for opportunities to improve the quality of ORBCOMM products.

Desired Qualifications and Experience:

  • A degree in Computer Science/Software Engineering/Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • 5 years equivalent work experience in development, QA, and/or maintenance of software applications
  • Knowledge of Agile/Scrum methodologies and experience working in an Agile development environment.
  • Broad knowledge of programming languages and Web Application technologies
  • Experience/Knowledge using automated test tools such as Selenium and Python scripting
  • Proven experience with troubleshooting principles, methodologies, and issue resolution techniques.
  • Able to develop and interpret technical documentation for training and end user procedures.
  • The ability to absorb new ideas and concepts quickly. Good analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • The ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • The ability to conduct research into software development, software QA, delivery concepts, as well as technical application issues.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Excellent written, oral, interpersonal, and presentational skills.
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.

Additional Strengths:

  • Experience with performance testing.
  • Experience with Microsoft PowerBI or other data visualization tools
  • Experience using automated test tools such as Selenium and Python scripting.
  • An understanding of SQL and a working knowledge of Oracle and/or MariaDB databases.
