But what does Funko do?  

Funko is a purveyor of pop culture, making and selling license-focused collectibles. We’re based in Everett, WA where we have a store that delights kids of all ages (kids at heart included). We currently hold hundreds of licenses for franchises ranging from Marvel to Harry Potter, giving us the rights to create tens of thousands of characters—one of the largest portfolios in the pop culture and collectibles industry. We take your favorite characters and turn them into adorable, or sometimes scary, collectible figures. Our most famous line, Pop! Vinyl, has millions of fans around the world.   

The Artist Lead works in partnership with the digital sculpting team to create 3D renders of Funko branded products and print and digital media. You will translate what a designer is trying to communicate to the client through 3D or 2D illustrations. Illustrations can range from conceptual art to photo-realistic quality.  In this position, the Artist Lead will analyze and understand the style of each project to ensure the rendering are accurate reflections of the design while remaining consistent visual brand standards. In-depth understanding of color, composition, and lighting for photorealistic imagery, including expert knowledge of lighting and render settings.  

Your Superpowers in Action  

  • Work alongside designers, digital sculptors, and directors to pre-visualize a wide array of projects.
  • Interpret design documentation to color, light, and render 3D sculpts to accurately match their real-world counterparts.
  • Demonstrate expertise in real-world materials and lighting to present photorealistic 3D imagery to licensors and consumers
  • Ensure final graphics and layouts are visually appealing, on-brand, and accurate.
  • Work efficiently and with open communication to ensure seamless hand-offs between pre- and post-production artists and other departments.
  • Partners with sculpting designers and designers to create 3D Renders using 3D sculpts.
  • Create realistic textile, fabric, metal, and wood textures to match our products.

Must-Have Superhero Gadgetry  

  • 5+ years of experience of previous rendering experience and or digital media production, preferably for figures/toy
  • Digital Art education or equivalent experience
  • Expertise in ZBrush, Adobe Photoshop, Keyshot required
  • Understanding of real-life lighting, materials, composition, and color
  • Great knowledge and understanding of physically based rendering
  • Strong grasp of both 2D and 3D design
  • Ability to work in a very fast-paced/changing environment
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, attention to detail
  • Positive, collaborative attitude with strong communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Submission of a portfolio of your work, demonstrating applicable skills is required. Applicants that do not submit a portfolio of work will not be considered for this position.

Salary Information    

The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $27-34.00 hourly.​ Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units.
