Job Title: Power Plant Process Engineer 1
Location: Wilsonville, Alabama (40 miles from Birmingham, AL)
Duration: 3 years (includes option to extend duration or be hired as FTE)

Job Description:
The Power Plant Process Engineer will be based at a steam turbine and subcritical power plant (gas and coal) located in Wilsonville, Shelby, Alabama (40 miles southeast of Birmingham, AL).

The Power Plant Process Engineer will primarily be responsible for monitoring plant performance, performing inspections of plant equipment and systems, and analysis of equipment and subsystems. This individual will be responsible for identifying performance issues and proactively working to resolve any potential performance issues.

The successful candidate will play a critical role in optimizing the performance and efficiency of our power generation facilities. This person will be responsible for overseeing the operation, maintenance, and improvement of various processes and systems within the power plant.

Ideal candidates will have a Bachelors Degree in an Engineering discipline, and preferably some Power Generation Plant experience or exposure to plant equipment and/or power systems (preferably coal-fired or gas power plant equipment and systems), although all are encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Process Optimization:
    • Analyze plant processes and systems to identify areas for improvement and implement solutions to enhance efficiency and performance.
    • Monitor and adjust plant operations to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable performance.
  • System Maintenance:
    • Develop and implement maintenance schedules for plant equipment and systems.
    • Work closely with maintenance and operations teams to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
    • Assist in planning and overseeing plant outages and major maintenance projects
  • Project Management:
    • Lead and manage engineering projects related to plant upgrades, expansions, and modifications.
    • Collaborate with contractors, vendors, and other stakeholders to ensure project success.
    • Prepare project documentation, including budgets, schedules, and technical reports.
  • Safety and Compliance:
    • Ensure all plant operations comply with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
    • Conduct safety audits and implement corrective actions as necessary.
  • Performance Monitoring:
    • Monitor and analyze plant performance data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
    • Develop and implement strategies to optimize plant efficiency and reduce operational costs.
  • Technical Support:
    • Provide technical expertise and support to plant personnel and other departments.
    • Stay current with industry trends and advancements in power plant technology.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (any discipline) is required.
  • Prior experience in power plant engineering, process optimization, or related roles.
  • Knowledge of power generation processes and systems, including turbines, boilers, generators, and control systems is desired.
  • Experience with data analysis, plant information systems/software, remote monitoring, and performance monitoring software is desired.
  • Experience with performance monitoring, identifying and troubleshooting performance issues and equipment is desired.
  • Familiarity with OEM designers such as GE, URS, and Mitsubishi is preferred, with an ability to understand new processes and system configurations quickly.
  • Prior Power Generation Plant Experience is desired.
  • Outage support, inspections, and repair planning experience is preferred.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Project management and organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with safety and environmental regulations in the utility industry.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Prior experience with power plant pollution control processes such as FGD, SCR, ESP, Fabric Filters, MATS, SO3, etc. is desirable.
