Position Summary

The Director of Service and Immersion is responsible for overseeing the school’s immersion trips, service opportunities for students, staff, and parents, and annual charity drives. At Presentation, these important ministries help to infuse the entire educational experience with the Gospel. The Director will help ensure that Presentation High School maintains programs in these areas that are dynamic and vital to the faith formation of our graduates to be women of faith who are dedicated to working with others, committed to their own personal growth and intellectually competent.

The Director will also oversee the Community Involvement Program to help form student leaders in supporting the school’s drives program, promoting active and engaged service and advocacy, and guide the student officers in the leadership functions of the program.

Presentation High School seeks to offer to each member of the school community the opportunity to hear and respond to the Gospel of Jesus Christ through a commitment to service and justice. Presentation is unique in that we do not require school-wide service hours; the Director will be responsible for providing creative programming and avenues to service that can inspire students and faculty to live our motto “Not Words But Deeds.”

The Director will collaborate closely with the Faith and Justice team and report directly to the Vice Principal of Mission and Catholic Identity.



Duties and Specific Responsibilities

  • Seek out and maintain community partnerships for service and advocacy.
  • Coordinate, train faculty leaders, and lead local, national, and international immersion trips infusing the vision of the Gospels throughout the immersion experience.
  • Includes logistical planning such as flights, transportation, lodging, and meals
  • Coordinate and organize the annual charity drives [Holiday, Mission] in partnership with outside community organizations. Develop student leaders to assist in the implementation of the Drives.
  • Coordinate and plan an annual semi-formal (The Black and White Charity Ball) to benefit Sacred Heart Community Services.
  • Develop student leaders to facilitate, organize, and promote the “Community Involvement Club” and “Kino Teens”.
  • Provide education for students that promotes advocacy and civic engagement.
  • Promote and organize service opportunities for the student body (monthly Service Spotlights); provide supervision as needed.
  • Schedule, organize, and lead an annual “Service Fair” providing students a chance to meet and network with local service, justice, and advocacy organizations.
  • Track service hours for the school community and highlight students, in coordination with PR, who are living out the Presentation motto “Not Words, But Deeds.”
  • Maintain a budget for annual service and immersion programming.
  • Promote and support club and student-initiated service events, fundraisers, and platinum projects in collaboration with the Leadership Director.
  • Assist with the liturgical planning of programming related to schoolwide Drives and other justice-related issues as needed.
  • Oversee student service learning placements for Religious Studies courses.
  • Oversee class-level days of service (Freshman, Sophomore).
  • Oversee biannual Faculty and Staff days of service.
  • Collaborate with Development and Engagement to offer alumni and family service opportunities.
  • Collaborate with other high schools and outside agencies to stay up to date in best practices in service and immersion programming in Catholic schools.
  • Support the work of the Faith and Justice team.
  • Be willing and available to travel with and transport students, work irregular work hours/schedule to lead and supervise student immersion and service activities.


Requirements:

Education & Experience

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The items below represent the education, and experience required or preferred.
  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Master’s Degree preferred with course studies in the field of Theology, Spirituality, Pastoral Ministry, or Religious Education.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Faith-filled person with a strong foundation in Catholic Social Teaching and ongoing faith formation.
  • A commitment to the educational philosophy of Presentation High School.
  • Experience in supervision and organization of volunteers; leading immersion trips.
  • Ability to facilitate the successful participation of students in service and immersion programs
  • Excellent organization, verbal, and written skills, as well as outstanding interpersonal skills.
  • Available and willing to work on occasional co-curricular events, including overnight field trips.
  • Total resonance with the mission, vision, and values of Presentation High School and the Catholic education tradition including a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • A self-starter and team player with a sense of urgency who is driven to learn and continually identify and determine the cause of problems, seek ways to improve professional skills and programs,
  • Develop and present recommendations for the modernization of internal systems, and best practice implementation
  • Demonstrate complete integrity and inspire trust in order to effectively establish and maintain cooperative working relationships within a diverse, multicultural environment and promote and contribute to an inclusive and respectful workplace
  • Strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with a wide-ranging audience, including leadership, faculty/staff, alumnae, parents, volunteers, media, and external stakeholders

The Director of Service and Immersion must be able to:

  • Considerable time is spent at a desk using a computer terminal
  • May be required to travel to other buildings on the campus
  • May be required to attend conference and training sessions within the Bay Area or in/or out-of-state locations
