**This is a hybrid position based in Jacksonville, Florida. **

ReMilNet, LLC is assisting the Jacksonville Historic Naval Ship Association’s (JHNSA) with identifying a Chief Operating Officer (COO) for the newly created nonprofit 501(c)(3) Veteran’s Museum. The Veteran’s Museum is a completely new concept that will capture the stories and histories of individual veterans and make these available to the public, though the sharing of information in kiosks positioned in various business lobby areas throughout Jacksonville.

The COO’s primary goal is to ensure the organization’s mission is fulfilled while assuring it operates efficiently and effectively. The successful COO will be tasked with implementing and overseeing the day-to-day administrative and operational functions of the Veterans’ Museum, including leadership, management, and strategic direction. The COO will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Veteran’s Museum and is second in the chain of command. Initially, the COO will be assisted by the Veterans Museum Board and current Jacksonville Naval Museum (JNM) Curator and Videographer staff members.

The COO job includes but is not limited to the following: provide overall strategic direction, support Board governance and committee work, develop and implement operational and fundraising strategy, supervise, and develop vehicles for the Veteran’s Museum (kiosks, websites, memorabilia display methods, collection of histories, etc.) and participate in Veteran related events to meet and profile potential individuals.

Position Duties
  • Co-develop and implement strategic and business plans that address the current and long-range direction of the Veteran’s Museum including community relations, financial development, fundraising strategies; facilities (once developed), human resources, operational infrastructure, and organization development and growth.
  • Serve as the ambassador for the Veteran’s Museum, participating in key and strategic community and statewide initiatives as deemed appropriate, to maintain the Veteran’s Museum visibility, enhance its stature, broaden stakeholder awareness, and deepen community impact.
  • Attend and participate in Board and Executive Committee meetings and serve as key staff liaison to other committees of the Board, as appropriate.
  • Assist with the development and deployment of a national membership of corporate and individual donors in support of the Veteran’s Museum programs and objectives.
  • Support Board development, engagement, performance, and succession.
  • Supervise the daily operations of the Veteran’s Museum’s business in accordance with the policies and procedures established by the Board.
  • Ensure the Veteran’s Museum has growing and diversified revenue sources from both the public and private sector to cover current and increasing costs as well as to support new initiatives.
  • Assist with recruiting and hiring of Veteran’s Museum staff.
  • Engage in annual fundraising activities to generate operating and capital resources.
  • With the assistance of the JHNSA Chief Financial Officer, prepare and present annual operating and capital Veteran’s Museum budgets to the Board for approval.
  • Develop and cultivate supporters and partnerships that will advance the Veteran’s Museum in a variety of ways including but not limited to donors, volunteers, community allies, advocates, etc.
  • Present the Veterans Museum story to area veteran, civic, religious, political and educational entities, establishing partnerships of mutual interest and benefit.
  • Provide other organizational support as identified.

Position Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree (or higher) in a relevant field.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in executive leadership in the nonprofit sector and/or a related field.
  • Proven leadership track record and business acumen, ideally in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization.
  • Demonstrated financial management skills.
  • Demonstrated fundraising skills including ability to network, cultivate, and sustain relationships with donors (individuals, corporations, foundations, etc.).
  • Communication, presentation, and public speaking skills.
  • Ability to build and forge a productive and synergistic working relationship with the Board.

Veteran’s Museum Overview
The newly created Veteran’s Museum delivers an innovative approach to honoring the legacy of Veterans located generally in Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia. The goal is to capture individual accomplishments (audio, video, written) from those who served within the United States military, to include active duty, reserves or in civilian employment in direct support of military facilities and/or equipment. In addition, the Veteran’s Museum will capture the stories of families left behind during deployed service to highlight the challenges overcome during times of deployment.

Information captured by these individuals will be transferred to portable/transferable exhibits and kiosks for display in public and private buildings, lobbies, and other areas of importance around the area. The goal is to be as inclusive as reasonably possible to recognize all who have honorably served, while attracting, educating and entertaining visitors of all ages to the exhibits.
