Substitute Child Nutrition Program Assistant-Birmingham City Schools, AL

Spur Staffing is looking for dependable, enthusiastic and hardworking candidates for Substitute Child Nutrition Program Assistant (CNP) positions for the Birmingham City School District. Birmingham City Schools is a public school district located in Birmingham, Alabama. The district operates 44 schools, including 25 elementary schools, 9 middle schools, 7 high schools, 3 alternative schools and a virtual school.

Duties include but are not limited to:

-This is a substitute position. Worker will pick up shifts in their Spur App when shifts become available. 

-Must have a team first attitude.

-Must be able to take direction and work efficiently with diverse groups. 

-Ability to prepare and serve a wide variety of food, soups, entrees, sandwiches, fruits, vegetables, salads, breads, desserts and beverages. 

-Work rapidly and efficiently in performing tasks, work positively and effectively with students and school personnel. 

-Follow written job assignments, recipes and oral instructions. 

-Apply and maintain Health Department and USDA standards of sanitation and personal hygiene and be able to keep records. 

-Participate in job related training and professional growth activities. 

-Develops and applies knowledge and/or skills obtained from training under the supervision of the manager and CNP central office staff. 

-Follow manager’s instruction as to methods and procedures to use in performing tasks. 

-Follows the Child Nutrition Program manager’s instructions in portioning, garnishing and serving meals. 

-Practice procedures in food preparation, use and care of equipment, and personal habits to assure that system, county and state sanitation standards are met. 

-Follows standards of safety in preparing, storing and serving food. 

-Maintains required forms and records as assigned by managers. 

-Performs other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications:

-Must be 19 years of age or older. 

-High school diploma or GED equivalent. 

-Must have an ALSDE background check from 2023 or higher. 

-Basic reading, writing and math skills. 

-Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. 

-Current Food Handler Permit from the Jefferson County Health Department. 

-Basic knowledge of methods of quantity food preparation and serving. 

-Basic knowledge of use and care of kitchen equipment and utensils. 

-Basic knowledge of food service safety and principles of sanitation. 

-Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the School Board may require. 

Salary and Shift Hours:
-$16.00 p/hr

-Worker will pick up shifts as they come available in their Spur App.

-Worker shifts are when school is in session unless otherwise requested by school administration.

-Shift hours may vary depending on school.  

Dress Code
-Black shirt, black slacks or black scrubs. (Scrubs are preferred)

-Slip resistant shoes required.
