We seek a Director of Patient Transportation and Observation/Sitter Services to join our team! This is a high-level position running two essential departments in the hospital. Position Summary:

Responsible for the effective leadership of Patient Transportation and Observation services, including but not limited to the successful management of supervisor(s), finances, client relations, patient and customer satisfaction, program quality standards, performance improvement, and personnel performance and productivity. Responsible for the overall planning, organizing, directing, and controlling of Patient Transportation, Patient Observation, and Hospital activities. Ensures compliance with regulatory agencies and established policies and procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates Patient Transportation and Observation activities and services with other departments.
  • Develops and recommends department operating budget and operates within approved guidelines.
  • Analyze and justify workload trends and staffing levels.
  • Monitors and purchases supplies and equipment when necessary.
  • Develops and promotes positive and effective customer service relations with patients, patient family members, visitors, and staff; ensures safe, comfortable, pleasant, and efficient transportation of patients.
  • Able to promote sales opportunities through hosting site tours and effective Patient Transportation presentations.
  • Ensures accurate and timely delivery of patients, specimens, blood, equipment, and other patient-related items; ensures maximum staff productivity.
  • Can prepare, implement, measure, and report quality improvement initiatives.
  • Conducts Quarterly Business Reviews.
  • Continuously monitors response times and associate productivity to remain compliant with account standards.
  • Conducts continuous improvement management programs, including, but not limited to, formal and informal staff observations, daily rounds, critical user surveys, and patient/family surveys.
  • Ensures compliance with all regulatory agencies, including but not limited to Federal, State, Joint Commission, OSHA, and CDC.
  • Selects, employs, orients, trains, develops, and terminates the employment of all levels of personnel.
  • Effectively delegates appropriate tasks to supervisors, provides appropriate direction, and monitors their performance.
  • Interacts daily with nursing and other support departments.
  • Ensures accuracy of all appropriate records and time sheets.
  • Conduct regular manager meetings with subordinates.
  • Management of patient transportation add-on services such as, but not limited to, patient observation, lift, courier, valet, or shuttle, where applicable.    

Particular Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Service/quality mentality and attitude. Practical organizational and time management skills.
  • Analytical ability to interpret financial and statistical data and to distinguish trends and other factors that impact operational activity. General business acumen.
  • Mental ability to provide excellent judgment for problem-solving related to the performance of associates’ coordination of activities related to Patient Transportation/Observation Services, policy enforcement, and emergency or stressful situations.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to interact, motivate, and communicate professionally with a wide range of staff and hospital personnel.
  • Physical ability to withstand frequent prolonged walking, standing, or sitting.
  • Effective verbal, listening, presentation, and written communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills utilizing a Windows-based Operating System: ability to troubleshoot system problems related to computer or software systems and initiate internal or external resolution to system issues.

 

Education, Training, and Experience:

Preferred 

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must complete and successfully pass a company-provided CPR or BLS class.
