Denver Language School (DLS) is a public, tuition-free language immersion charter school located in East Denver. DLS provides an innovative academic program to reach the highest levels of student achievement through comprehensive language immersion education in Spanish and Mandarin Chinese. DLS offers traditional learning activities in the target language, making the language both the medium and the object of instruction.

Innovation Lab Teacher Job Description

This role is designed to meet the needs of the Whiteman Elementary School community by providing Social Emotional Learning (SEL) education and Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) education to youth, grades K-4. The person in this role will also provide additional classroom support daily. Denver Language School is seeking team members who are ready to work collaboratively in a professional learning community; participate fully in professional development; and engage in continuous growth as an educator to best meet the socio-emotional learning needs of our students.

Essential Functions and Objectives
  • Teach appropriate grade level standards-based SEL and LifeSkills Innovation Lab curriculum in grades K-4
  • Teach standards-based STEAM education to students in grade K- 4
  • Use a backward design approach to embed 21st Century Skills throughout units of study, providing multiple opportunities for students to prepare to thrive in a global society with learning that is engaging, sustainable and applicable to everyday life.
  • Utilize SEL and STEM components to create engaging lessons that prepare students to be solution oriented, creative thinkers.
  • As a member of our Student Support Team, provide additional push in classroom support daily
  • Monitor, supervise, coordinate and enforce rules of conduct and behavior to assigned students
  • Attend Student Support Team meetings and/or IEP meetings, as requested
  • Analyze data and present information at meetings, as appropriate
  • Prepare Innovation Lab course outlines, objectives and materials according to curriculum guidelines
  • Present subject matter to students by instructing individually and in groups using various active teaching methods (e.g. cooperative learning, technology, discussions), adjusting teaching style and method to meet student learning style.
  • Establish and communicate clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects to students.
  • Assist in the administration of English I-Station testing for K-2 students throughout the school year.
  • Communicate with students' caretakers, teachers, counselors and administrators to resolve students' behavioral and academic problems; and coordinate instructional efforts.
  • The safety of our students is our top priority, therefore all staff members will be expected to hold additional supervision duties, including before or after school or as directed by your supervisor.
  • DLS expects all staff to cultivate a collaborative, inclusive, efficient workplace by maintaining a spirit of innovation and adaptability. You are a vital part of the DLS community, and will be expected to attend professional development, may be asked to serve on committees, provide insight, perform research, analyze data, or otherwise contribute to achieving our mission.
  • Assist with and attend DLS cultural, recruitment, or PTO events.
  • Maintain and update content on individual classroom websites and communicate with DLS families.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Education or passing score on Praxis in all subtests for Elementary Education
  • Must possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in education or a related field
  • Official transcripts required upon hiring

Annual Salary Range: $50,000 - $61,001
