AI Engineer Intern

Responsibilities:

The AI Engineer Intern will gain experience of developing state-of-the-art artificial intelligence (AI) systems on healthcare use cases, such as note generation for doctors, summarization for clinicians’ hand-off process, predictions of clinical outcomes such as hospital length of stay, and others significant for hospital systems. In the generative AI era, Pieces is in a leading position to develop the generative AI applications in healthcare, and this role could be a solid step for advancing your career path into the generative AI applied scientist. As an intern, you will be working with some of the best AI applied scientists, physician scientists, data scientists, and/or engineers being your mentor and teammate.

Duties and responsibilities include but not limited to:

• Support the development of an end-to-end AI engine such as individual modules or functions in the system.

• Support the infrastructure development to scale our prompt engineering efforts with physicians

• Understand the data models that connect AI engine and other components in the system, such as internal user interface for chart review, outbound delivery, and data analytics

• Perform data analysis, extraction, cleaning, and/or feature engineering for specific tasks such as predictive modeling, evaluation, visualization, etc.

• Assist with developing machine learning, natural language processing (NLP), or other algorithmic components.

• Seek advice and guidance as needed to ensure proper understanding.

Requirements:

We’re looking for an AI Engineer Intern who’s passionate about using technology to help the most vulnerable. You’re someone who believes the right data can help build better one-to-one relationships with communities in need of extra support. You have expertise in the following areas:

• Bachelor or above in computer science, data science, and engineering, or

• Significant coursework and/or completed projects in data science, mathematics, statistics, or artificial intelligence.

• Prior work or research experience in a related field is a plus.

• Highly motivated in the AI and generative AI domain. Below are the relevant experiences on your motivation:

  • Experience of applying AI assistants to facilitate the development work in coding, writing, and others

  • Understanding the advantages of different foundation models as well as their limitations

  • Experience of developing LLM-based applications or projects

• Knowledge of machine learning, deep learning, informatics, or statistical methods, and their applications.

• Experience with databases and NLP is a plus.

• Ability to self-manage, set goals, and meet commitments.

• Critical thinking skills.

• Team-based work and communication tools (Google Doc, Sheet, etc).

• Proficient with Linux and MacOS operating system.

• Proficient with programming languages including Python in performing data cleaning, manipulation, processing management and analysis is required.
