SUMMARY
Assists severely and persistently mentally ill clients in locating, obtaining and maintaining suitable, competitive employment and/or education in the community; conducts assessment of individuals’ skills & capabilities, and elicits & develops community employer resources for job opportunities or education resources. Maintains required caseload and job placements providing support and follow-up as necessary.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Engages clients and establishes trusting, collaborative relationships directed toward the goal of competitive employment/education completion in community settings.
- Performs client assessments and plans services to meet the individual needs of clients
- Conducts job development and job search activities toward positions that are individualized to the interests and uniqueness of the clients on his/her caseload.
- Maintains positive relationship with community businesses/educational institutions and actively seeks new job/education sources weekly for clients
- Develops pathways to jobs that meet the vocational goal set cooperatively with the client; calls on companies in the community; develops plan for utilization of client
- Maintain contact with Vocational Rehabilitation staff through attendance at monthly meetings and completing required documentation
- Provides on-going support service so that client maintains work or school performance once IPS Specialist has left the job site or educational institution
- Educates client in basic life skills including hygiene, proper dress, handling stress and other work related issues
- Acts as advocate for client with employers and treatment team; participates in weekly meetings with the mental health team members, and provides pertinent information to treatment team
- Provides outreach services as necessary to clients when they miss appointments. Uses a variety of methods to address what is interfering with the client’s employment/education plan
- Completes timely documentation progress notes, Service Activity Logs (SALS), computer entry and paperwork required by the Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP), the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (ODMHSAS), or other contractual requirements
- Supports and assists with the facilitation of Care Plans for consumers within the Red Rock Health Team
- Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- High School or equivalent, with one year related experience in social field
- Equivalent combination of relevant college coursework and work experience
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Public relations or marketing skills
- Familiarity with technology
- General skill in exercising independent judgment
- Must have a valid Oklahoma Driver's License
- Must have clean motor vehicle record
- Must have reliable transportation and proof of insurance
- Must be 21 years or older
- Two or more years’ experience working with Serious and Persistent Mental Illness (SPMI) clients preferred
