Overview: As a Dental Hygienist, you play a crucial role in the dental healthcare team, focusing primarily on preventive oral care and patient education. Your responsibilities include performing various dental hygiene procedures to promote oral health, assisting dentists during dental procedures, and educating patients on proper oral hygiene techniques. You will work closely with dentists, dental assistants, and other dental professionals to provide comprehensive dental care to patients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct dental hygiene assessments: Perform thorough examinations of patients' oral health, including assessing their teeth, gums, and overall oral condition.
- Dental cleaning and scaling: Perform professional dental cleanings to remove plaque, tartar, and stains from patients' teeth. Conduct scaling and root planing procedures to treat gum disease and promote gum health.
- Provide preventive dental care: Apply fluoride treatments and dental sealants to help prevent tooth decay. Offer advice and guidance on maintaining good oral hygiene habits.
- Assist dentists during procedures: Assist dentists with dental procedures such as fillings, extractions, and root canals. Prepare and sterilize dental instruments and equipment as needed.
- Educate patients: Educate patients on proper oral hygiene techniques, including brushing, flossing, and dietary habits. Provide personalized recommendations for improving oral health.
- Take dental X-rays: Capture dental X-rays as needed to assist in diagnosing dental issues and monitoring oral health.
- Maintain patient records: Document treatment plans, procedures performed, and patient progress in dental records accurately and efficiently.
- Follow infection control protocols: Adhere to strict infection control protocols to maintain a clean and safe dental environment for patients and staff.
- Stay updated on industry trends: Stay informed about advancements in dental hygiene techniques, technologies, and best practices through continuing education and professional development opportunities.
- Collaborate with dental team: Work collaboratively with dentists, dental assistants, and other dental professionals to provide comprehensive dental care and ensure positive patient outcomes.
Qualifications:
- Completion of an accredited dental hygiene program.
- Valid state dental hygiene license.
- CPR certification.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Attention to detail and excellent manual dexterity.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
