Job Description

SUMMARY: To encourage students to stay in school through high school graduation and prepare them for life by; (1) identifying and coordinating appropriate community resources; (2) expanding parent/caretaker support and involvement and facilitating community partnerships; and (3) providing individualized assistance to students and families with special needs.

REPORTS TO: Program Manager

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Exempt

SPECIFIC DUTIES: Duties of the Site Coordinator include but are not limited to the following:

•Develop necessary relationships with school staff, parents and community representatives.

•Exemplify leadership and devotion to enlightening and empowering youth to reach their fullest potential.

• Serve as a case manager for approximately 50 students to receive long-term sustained services(through CIS small group activities, and/or individual caseload services) and demonstrate improvement in students’ performance in attendance, behavior and/or academic performance when compared to the previous school year by:

-Making home visits to complete a student profile and parent permission form.

-Building one-on-one relationships with students and families.

-Checking attendance and contacting parents of absent students.

-Identifying academic deficits and supports needed, such as tutoring, to improve academic performance.

-Making referrals for parents and students to outside agencies as appropriate.

-Acting as an advocate for students with Juvenile Court and other institutions, if necessary; accurately maintaining all case files, collecting required data and providing reports for the use of CIS of Atlanta, the school and the school system.

• Conduct a needs assessment by analyzing multiple sources of school data to determine key needs of the school and individual students.

• Establish a school support plan with the support staff and the principal to identify strategies, interventions, and supports to address the items identified during the needs assessment.

•Seek resources for the school community, including:

-Working to identify social, educational, vocational and cultural resources.

-Providing orientation and training as needed to school staff, volunteers and agency staff working with the school.

• Design and implement special classes, small groups, programs, and extracurricular activities including the involvement of tutors, mentors, guest speakers, and other volunteers and partnerships.

• Provide short-term, crisis intervention service to caseload students based on referrals from school staff: including maintaining a file on each referral to document the services provided.

-Providing feedback to the referring source on progress in resolving problems identified.

• Work with school staff to increase parent/caretaker engagement according to goals established by site coordinator and the support team (team of school staff that collaborates to provide students supports).

• Use organization's preferred database software to complete monthly reports of activities and services accurately and on time.

-Meeting with the school principal on a regular basis to discuss the progress of the students

being served and keep the principal informed of daily schedule.

• Attend and actively participate in required CIS of Atlanta and School staff meetings, orientations, training events, activities, and other meetings as requested by the CIS of Atlanta or the school principal.

• Carry out other duties as determined by the CIS of Atlanta Director of Programs.

SUPERVISION AND ACCOUNTABILITY: For daily operating activities, the Site Coordinator will report to the school principal. All reports to the main CIS office documenting campus activities by the Site Coordinator require the school principal’s review and signature. For external activities relating to service agencies, community partnerships, volunteers, and parent/caretaker contact, the Site Coordinator is accountable to the CIS supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree (master’s degree preferred) in social work, social sciences, education, or a human services related field or equivalent years of experience.

• Two or more years’ experience in working with schools, families and/or children.

• Ability to adhere to policies and procedures to complete administrative tasks correctly and on time and support the organization's goals and values.

• Strong computer literacy including proficiency in Microsoft office Suite Applications and comfortability using different software for data entry.

• Ability to maintain confidentiality.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to tailor communication styles to different audiences within the school community.

• Strong management and organizational skills

• Familiarity with education, health and human services, juvenile justice, and other family support services.

• Capable of working independently, meet deadlines, work under stress, be resourceful and function as an effective team member.

• Prioritize the well-being and success of students in decision-making.

• Analyze academic, attendance and behavioral data to identify areas for improvement.

• Establish positive and trusting relationships with students, parents, and school staff.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Will require some light lifting

• Must be Willing to travel, as job requires

HOURS: Working hours are generally 8:00 - 4:30 p.m., however it is expected that this person will have a flexible schedule and will work additional hours as needed to accommodate evening and weekend activities and reporting deadlines. Able to make adequate and reliable transportation arrangement.
