Founded in 1991, Amigos For Kids is a Miami-based nonprofit dedicated to the prevention of child abuse and neglect by valuing children, strengthening families, and educating communities. Amigos For Kids moves its mission forward through its education, awareness, and advocacy programs aimed at helping families in under-resourced communities thrive.
Job Summary:
The Amigos Care Program Natural helper provides supports for families and youth to foster engagement and achievement of care plan goals in a manner that demonstrates cultural awareness and humility.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Outreach (80% of the time)
- Advocates on behalf of families and youth to ensure access to available resources
- Assists families in overcoming barriers to services
- Assists families and youth in navigating complex community, social, health and educational
- systems and services
- Develops and maintains extensive knowledge of referral network
- Conducts outreach activities in the community to inform families and youth of available services to address needs
Success Coach Support (20% of the time)
Care Coordination
- Provides in-person consultations with families and helps them develop and follow through with action plans that will help them meet identified goals.
- Ensures that families understand and access the full spectrum of services available for their identified needs.
Partner Collaboration and Service Coordination
- Develops an expert understanding of social services in Miami-Dade County to ensure that families are aware of and access the services they need.
Data Collection and Tracking
- Collects, monitors, tracks and maintains all data on families, including demographic, family finance, public benefits, and referrals.
- Collects, monitors, and tracks data on family's progress toward goal attainment in a centralized and shared database.
Qualifications:
Successful applicants must hold at least an Associate Degree, have at least one year of experience working with under-resourced families in a social services setting, and be bilingual (English/Spanish). Additional years of experience may substitute the education requirements. Applicants should also possess excellent interpersonal skills.
Applicants must:
- Agree to fingerprinting and a Level 2 background check
- Submit to random drug testing as determined by Amigos For Kids personnel policies and procedures
- Agree to attend staff development and training
- Sign an Affidavit of Good Moral Character
- Have never been convicted of a felony or a misdemeanor related to abuse, neglect, exploitation, or other barrier crimes as listed on the Sworn Disclosure Statement of the Criminal Record Check
- Provide references as requested
- Have reliable transportation and a valid driver's license
- Be willing to work with families in a variety of settings such as home, school, or at referral locations.
- Be willing to work a flexible schedule that may include evenings and weekends
