Job Description

SUMMARY: The Classroom Teacher is responsible for the daily supervision and safety and well-being of the children at all times; being alert for the needs and/or problems of the children as individuals and as a group.

Knowledge/Expertise/Qualifications

Associates or (Bachelors preferred) in early childhood education/elementary education or special education or a related field, preferred but NOT required.

Minimum of 1 year experience working in a licensed childcare setting or in a practicum childcare setting.

Knowledge of early childhood education practices, teaching tools and equipment.

Excellent oral and written communication skills, organizational skills, and interpersonal skills. Ability to develop and maintain a positive and pleasant atmosphere.

Ability to relate to children and adults.

General Duties

Maintain program goals and objectives of the Center.

Plan lessoning and Implementation of lesson plans using Creative Curriculum and Teaching Strategies GOLD program. To enhance each child’s cognitive, social/ emotional, literary, independency, and fine gross-motor skills through engaging and developmentally appropriate activities. Provide a balance between group and individual activities.

Attend to the personal needs of children, while providing opportunities for the children to learn to self-help skills.  Provide a stimulating, safe, and pleasant environment which is conductive to learning.

Observe and collect data to assess children’s growth and development using the Teaching Strategies GOLD program.

Accompany children on fieldtrips which are developmentally appropriate.

Complete appropriate records and reports on a daily basis.

Maintain established policies and procedures.

Assist in the care and maintenance of facilities, equipment, and supplies. Keep classroom, storage rooms, and bathroom clean, neat and orderly.

Decorate the room with bulletin boards, pictures, children’s artwork, and other approved hangings.

Participate in state mandated Family Style Dining, including engaging with the students during meals. Also modeling proper table manners and serving techniques.

Conduct individual conferences with parents of each child, quarterly.

Develop constant communication with parent; write and send home regular Parent Notes, or other information. This will include a monthly newsletter and weekly or daily reports.

Attend continuing education classes, workshops, or seminar at least twice a year.

Keep Director(s) informed in advance of any supplies needed.

Report to Director(s) any special needs or problems of individual children.

Report to Director(s) any cases of suspected child abuse or neglect.

Attend MANDATORY monthly staff meetings and annual evaluation meetings.

Handle discipline promptly and in accordance with stated policy on discipline.
