Job Description

JOB TITLE: Stagehand (Part Time)

Reports To: Production Manager

Summary:

The stagehand will be responsible for providing technical support for theatrical rehearsals, productions and events within City Springs campus and the Sandy Springs Performing Arts Center. This position will be directly responsible for the preparation, setup, hanging, wiring, and focusing of all stage systems, including rigging. During live music events, this position will be responsible for the production and quality of professional level staging and effects and their implementation. Other responsibilities include, acting as the primary safety warden of the theatrical spaces, ensuring the proper use and upkeep of stage equipment, installation and removal of necessary equipment, and the successful installation and removal of scenery. Other duties include stage carpentry, rigging, and stage audio and lighting as needed, and assisting in the maintenance and proper use of all lighting and audio/visual needs within City Springs facilities. The Stagehand will work alongside visiting professionals, including lighting operators, lighting designers, producers and performers to plan and carry out the structure of the physical event for every performance.

Job Functions:

  • Plan, setup and operate stage equipment for assigned events presented within the City Springs facilities
  • Provide rigging expertise
  • Perform supervisory duties while assisting in the assembly and disassembly of lighting, sound, scenic elements and band gear
  • Assist in the construction and setup of risers and musical equipment as well as other specialized theatrical equipment
  • Lead and/or assist with the loading and unloading of visiting artists' equipment
  • Assist in the production of live events including the operation of theatrical equipment including spotlights and other lighting, audio consoles and various stage equipment, video and projection elements, and moving scenery
  • Provide proper maintenance of rigging and other theatrical stage equipment
  • Maintain a safe working facility for employees and patrons
  • May act as Stage Manager and/or Event Lead for a variety of events
  • Ability to read contracts, riders and plans in order to provide appropriate equipment and timely setup
  • Provide setup and oversight of lighting and audio/video needs for facility rentals
  • Assists in training and supervising the work of hourly employees in the production team
  • Work with the production personnel on a variety of job duties related to events at City Springs
  • Must possess a customer service focused, proactive, positive attitude at all times with guests, staff, and co-workers
  • Manage all related paperwork and schedules
  • Other duties as assigned

Physical Demands:

  • While performing duties of this job, the employee frequently lifts and moves facility equipment, supplies and/or tools. Employee will constantly move about inside and outside various areas of the facility before/during/after events; position will require employee to frequently bend, stoop, or crouch in order to set-up equipment in various areas of the building and grounds. Employee may be required due to business demands and event operations to lift and/or move up to 70 pounds.

Work environment:

  • The duties of this position are performed primarily indoors and occasionally outdoors in the weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal to moderate during non-event days and when not operating equipment and moderate to loud during event days when equipment is in operation.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City officials, community organizations, the public, promoters, coworkers and supervisors
  • Strong customer service skills and a willingness to help people
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply basic analytical, math, and accounting skills
  • Working knowledge of theatrical equipment and procedures such as fly systems, theatrical lighting, video projection, etc.
  • Ability to effectively foster relationships with the public and to handle stressful situations
  • Ability to interact with a broad range of people to effectively accomplish assigned tasks or projects
  • Must be flexible and able to handle multiple tasks and conflicting priorities. Must be able to work under and adhere to deadlines, even under stressful or difficult situations
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to follow both verbal and written instructions, and the ability to issue clear and concise verbal and/or written instructions to others and report operations verbally or in written form
  • Ability to assist in setting up events and exhibits

Ability to work flexible hours including mostly weekends, evenings, and holidays as workload demands and as assigned

Requirements:

  • Two to Five (2-5) years' experience in live audio production and event production or a closely related area is required
  • Supervisory experience preferred
  • Bachelor degree in audio production, theatre production or related area preferred or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of, experience in and/or strong interest in arts and culture is preferred
  • Must have current Driver's License and two (2) years good driving history
  • Ability to work flexible schedule based on event needs, including: nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
  • Must pass post-offer background check and drug screen.
