POSITION SUMMARY

The HSE Specialist at Ironsmith Fire must foster and enhance our safety culture.  This role involves a strategic approach to safety management, focusing on reducing workplace risks and ensuring compliance with safety regulations.  The HSE Specialist will play a crucial role in handling workers’ compensation claims, managing OSHA logs and reporting, and collaborating with both our team and customers to preemptively address potential safety issues.  The ideal candidate will embody our core values.   The HSE Specialist reports to the CEO.

OBJECTIVES

·       Oversee and streamline the process of handling workers’ compensation claims to ensure they are managed effectively and in compliance with legal standards.

·       Develop and maintain a panel of physicians through detailed analysis, ensuring that medical providers meet our standards of care and expertise.

·       Attend doctor appointments and medical visits with employees who have been injured on the job or have claimed workers’ compensation, to ensure transparent and appropriate medical treatment and to prevent any potential misuse of claims (in some cases this may required the HSE Specialist to drive the employee to the doctor themselves).

·       Maintain accurate OSHA logs and ensure timely reporting of safety incidents and compliance issues.

·       Work collaboratively with internal teams and external clients to implement strategies that minimize risks and prevent accidents.

·       Champion a culture of safety within the organization that aligns with our core values and encourages a collaborative rather than adversarial approach to safety management.

·       The HSE Specialist must be willing to travel to other branch offices and remote jobsites as required.

·       The HSE specialist must be a proactive team player who is not perceived as an adversary but as a supportive advocate for employee safety and customer relations.

COMPETENCIES

 ·       Ability to develop and implement comprehensive safety programs.

·       Strong capability for thorough analysis and decision-making concerning physician panels and safety data.

·       Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively advocate for safety practices and foster a culture of safety.

·       Demonstrated ability to lead by example, advocate for team members, and work collaboratively across departments.

·       Capacity to adjust strategies and practices to better align with organization goals and safety regulations.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

 ·       Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent work experience) in Safety Management, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field.

·       Minimum of 5-years in a similar role, preferably in the construction industry.

·       Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or similar certification is highly preferred.

·       Proven track record of managing OSHA compliance and handling workers’ compensation claims.

·       Experience in developing and maintaining physician panels is preferred, but not required.
