Speech & Language Pathologist Summary: 

 

A caring and talented Speech & Language Pathologist is needed to provide Speech and Language services to the District and schools including screening, testing, and consulting to assist them in meeting the educational needs of the students.

  • Salary: $46,383.00 - $86,919.00 DOE

JOB SKILLS, REQUIREMENTS, and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Is aware of, and abides by, responsibilities of the position held through familiarization with State law, Board Policies, the District Teachers' Handbook, the local school handbooks, position description and other information which is distributed through official channels (school mail, U.S. Mail, faculty/District meetings, etc.).
  • Develops a balanced program of Speech and Language services which is based on, and is carried out through, clearly written behavioral objectives (goals, objectives, evaluation) and a variety of activities geared for optimum learning and which are compatible with the basic philosophy of the District. Organizes time and services to provide for the accomplishment of objectives within the allotted time and resources.
  • Administers to students approved individual and group tests as directed by the District Psychologist.
  • Evaluates and interprets all testing, completes case studies as required and makes recommendations to the School Appraisal Team and Educational Assessment Service on students considered as Individuals with Exceptional Needs.
  • Consults with Parents as requested by the Principal or Special Education Coordinator regarding recommendations to parents in the area of Speech and Language development. Consults with all parents who receive direct services.
  • Confers with teachers, administrators and other professional staff members on findings of individual and screening tests and helps them in their efforts to better understand and help individual students with Language, Speech and Hearing difficulties.
  • Consults with other agencies, both public and private, regarding individual cases.
  • Consults with other staff members in correlating all available information regarding Individuals with Exceptional Needs.
  • Evaluates, recommends, requisitions and maintains inventory records of equipment, instructional media and books.
  • Establishes good human relations program between and among individuals and school staffs.
  • Maintains a community relations program which enhances the operation of the school district.
  • Acts as a resource person on an inter-school level and contributes to the efficient operation of the District through participation in meetings called by the Superintendent or his designated representative.
  • Maintains professional competence through participation in in-service activities provided by the District and/or self selected growth activities.
  • Performs basic attendance accounting and business services as required in connection with the teaching assignment.

 

  • Shares in the sponsorship of co-curricular student activities and participates in faculty/District committees.
  • May plan and coordinate the work of instructional assistants and other paraprofessionals.
  • Supervises students in and out-of-class activities during the assigned work day.
  • Instructs students in proper care and safe use of equipment, instructional media, and books. Provides adequate supervision to insure overall safety of pupils and maintains surveillance over such property in order to prevent loss or abuse. Makes minor adjustments and requests repairs as required.
  • May prepare letters of recommendation for scholarships, jobs, etc.
  • May guide students entering competition and developing projects related to subject area taught.

 

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS Successful candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Pre-placement TB Test
  • Pre-placement Physical
  • Speech-Language Pathology Services Credential - Language, Speech and Hearing
  • Clean background and criminal record and must pass a drug test
  • Successfully pass annual competency checks
  • Reliable car/auto insurance
  • Proof of eligibility to work in the US
  • Current California Driver’s License
