General Machinist

Essential Job Duties

• § Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, charts and tables or study sample parts
• § Work to dimensions and tolerances provided by blueprints
• § Set up, operate and maintain a variety of machine tools including computer numerically controlled (CNC) tools to perform precision
• § Fit and assemble machined metal parts and subassemblies using hand and power tools
• § Verify dimensions of products for accuracy and conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments
• § Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines
• § Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process
• § Edit programs as needed / Write short programs as needed
• § Observe and listen to operating machines or equipment to diagnose machine malfunctions and to determine needs for adjustments or repairs
• § Separate scrap waste and related materials for reuse, recycling, or disposal
• § Scan all jobs through the Made2Manage (M2M) system

Other Duties

• § Report deviations from specifications and tolerances to supervisor
• § Maintain inspection records and complete inspection reports
• § Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Ÿ High school diploma or equivalent required
• Ÿ One year of machine shop experience required
• Ÿ Completion of a technical trade school, or the equivalent of education and experience, or trade certification for general Machinist is preferred
• Ÿ Ability to complete a technical trade school apprentice program within four years is required
• Ÿ Ability to use measuring devices to verify that work meets blueprint specifications
• Ÿ Basic shop math skills including knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, trigonometry and their application is required
• Ÿ Able to edit programs
• Ÿ Able to write short programs
• Ÿ Ability to communicate clearly
• Ÿ Possess effective organization and time management skills, be detail oriented, use good judgment, and manage competing priorities for multiple projects and consistently meet all deadlines
