JOB TITLE: Food Corps Lead (AmeriCorps)

DIVISION: Youth Services

DEPARTMENT: Youth Services

LOCATION: Samaritan Center (East) and Youth Reengagement Center (Southwest)

REPORTS TO: Education and Vocation Coordinator

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt/Hourly

CLASSIFICATION: Part-Time Temporary

JOB SUMMARY: The AmeriCorps Food Corps Lead manages the day-to-day activities of food distribution and oversight of the youth volunteers. This includes coordination, planning, on-site Supervision, and training of youth volunteers. They serve as role model, facilitator and mentor encouraging high standards of AmeriCorps Members involvement in community-based, service projects.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Serve as the main point of contact for SER’s food distribution partner.
  2. Train and overs youth volunteers engaged in food distribution at each site.
  3. Communicate the value of serving as an AmeriCorps member to prospective candidates, both one-on-one and in large groups.
  4. Coordinate and execute weekly service-learning opportunities with food distribution partners.
  5. Coordinate and schedule youth interviews with candidates to ensure eligibility.
  6. Support the application review and selection process, including supervising the pipeline of candidates from application to interview and conducting required background checks.
  7. Create a positive service member experience from recruitment and selection through onboarding and the start of service.
  8. Support a vibrant engagement program for prospective candidates.
  9. Conduct regularly scheduled team meetings designed to unify team members by building consensus, resolving conflicts, and providing structured feedback.
  10. Facilitate, encourage, support, and model integration of service learning. Conduct or coordinate training such as skill-building workshops, safe work practices, team-building exercises, mini-courses, and physical conditioning.
  11. Attend all service-learning opportunities with members.
  12. Submit written reports on project progress, achievements, and accomplishments; member evaluations; and special activities or incidents. Maintain daily records, leave of absence requests, service forms, etc.
  13. Contribute to the team effort by performing other duties as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. A minimum educational requirement of an Associates’ degree from an accredited college or university.
  2. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and writing communication skills.
  3. Ability to work in an enthusiastic and encouraging way with young people facing barriers.
  4. Commitment to the goals and objectives of the program and to the mission of SER Metro-Detroit.
  5. A high degree of initiative and the ability to work without constant supervision is required. Must have experience working in team settings, collaborate effectively with others, function well under pressure, manage multiple tasks concurrently, and always remain professional.
  6. Must be able to plan program activities and services, manage time effectively, prioritize tasks, and meet program deadlines.
  7. Regular punctual attendance, including evenings and weekends, is required.
  8. Must possess a valid chauffeur driver’s license.
  9. Must be eligible to pass a background check, including fingerprints.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, bend, stand, sit, and talk or hear. The employee will frequently lift and/or move 35-50 pounds. The employee will be occasionally required to withstand hot and cold weather for an extended period as needed when engaging in outdoor events and activities.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. -This job operates in a normal school environment with a noise level, which is at times moderately loud with little discomfort due to noise, dirt, dust and the like. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
