Carpenter

SJS Executives, LLC (SJS) is currently seeking reliable, safety conscious, experienced Carpenters to work full time for SJS in a possible upcoming contract in Manhattan NY to help support operations at a Veteran’s Affairs Hospital.

SJS is a Service-Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) with 150 employees coast to coast and is headquartered in Virginia Beach, Virginia. SJS specializes in professional services to support federal and military organizations.

This position starts May 13, if you are unable to start on that date, and complete onboarding (offer letter, onboarding paperwork, and complete drug test) within 24 hrs, please do not apply.

The Carpenter must possess a minimum of 5 years of verified experience. Carpenters must also possess their own tools to accomplish the work that will be assigned to them.

The Pay for this position will be $32.74/Hr. The benefits will also include 12 paid Federal/State holidays per year, 56 hours accrued Sick time; and medical, health, dental, vision and life insurance package.

This person will enjoy collaborating with a team and know how to conduct themselves with decorum, as they will be working on a property owned by the United States federal government and interacting with federal employees and service members.

Some of the Responsibilities will include:

• Correcting life safety and Environment of Care workplace deficiencies in addition to work constructing, altering, maintaining, and repairing buildings, structures, partitions, panels, tool cabinets, bookcases, work benches, and other items using wood and wood substitutes.
• Performs interior and exterior building maintenance, operation, repair and construction work.
• Demolition, constructing, altering, maintaining, and repairing/replacing buildings, building structures, appurtenances, partitions, panels, walls, interior finishes and accessories, tool cabinets, cabinets, bookcases, work benches, walls, ceilings, wood, wood substitutes, metal framing, and suspended ceilings.
• Measures, cuts, constructs or repairs wood or wood substitutes for items such as scaffolding, staging parts, panels, bins, pallets, concrete forms, dry walls, roof, decking, and suspended ceilings.
• Measures, cuts, constructs, installs repairs and modifies routine mill work, framing, benches, partitions, tables, furniture, etc. Performs work to close tolerances, exact fit, and structural soundness.
• Operates and uses a wide variety of specialty woodworking machines and tools. Operates and uses carpentry tools by setting-up, adjusting, and maintaining tools to meet required specifications.
• Operates and uses a variety of tools by setting-up, adjusting, and maintaining tools to meet required specifications.
• Plans, measures and lay out carpentry materials using broad knowledge of wood materials and substitutes, with general and precision woodworking techniques.
• Projects involve constructing, altering, repairing, and/or modifying metal or wood framework, rafters, doors, finished paneling, windows, rough furniture, interior/exterior trim, staircases, trusses and beams. Spacing, accuracy and fit are essential, and structural soundness or appearance is important.
• Plans, measures, and lays out carpentry materials using advanced shop mathematics for complex and exact projects. Plans, measures, and lays out carpentry materials by interpreting complex or incomplete instructions, sketches, blueprints, and building codes.
• Must use all personal protective gear provided including but not limited to hearing protection, hard hats, safety glasses/eye protection, safety hard toed shoes, respiratory protection, fall protection, etc.

Qualifications:

• 5 or more years of experience as a Carpenter.
• Must also possess their own tools to accomplish the work that will be assigned to them.
• Must possess the knowledge, skill and ability to select the proper material and processes to be applied for the job to be performed including the ability to select the proper tools and equipment needed to perform the functions of carpenter.
• Skilled in the operation of general and precision carpentry and woodworking equipment, and can produce finished items with precise fits, accurate dimension, and acceptable appearance.
• Must be able to successfully pass a drug test and a thorough background check for access onto a military installation; please note the background check for this position extends past 7 years, in conformance with federal law and US Department of Justice guidelines for work on a military installation.
