Salary: $28.94 - $31.62/hourly starting wage (d.o.e.), $28.94 - $40.06 hourly full salary range (svc yr based)

SUMMARY: 

This position is responsible for providing supportive services to the food bank volunteer coordination team as well as the oversight of volunteer activities in one of our locations. As the subject matter expert for the volunteer coordination team primary responsibilities will include:  supervision, coordination and support during all aspects of volunteer recruitment, training, recognition and retention.

 

KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):

  1. Lead implementation strategies for recruitment, training, recognition and retention of organizational volunteers.
  2. Support team efforts to monitor Food Bank volunteer staff to ensure compliance with Federal, State, and local program standards (OSHA, L&I), Thurston County Department of Health, as well as TCFB policies and procedures.
  3. Act as the subject matter expert for the volunteer coordination team. Train, mentor, and conduct regular meetings with volunteer coordinators to ensure team cohesiveness and consistent messaging.  Create and manage team outreach schedule.
  4. Supervise, mentor, and train volunteer coordination staff and volunteers, assign tasks, resolve conflicts, assist with emotional decompression during tough situations, and create a positive, engaging, and equally accessible environment. Instruct volunteers regarding organizational safety standards and the reporting of accidents and/or incidents within the facility. Support maintenance of volunteer relationships and communication both orally and in writing.
  5. Train and orient volunteer staff on Federal, State, and local program standards, job requirements, philosophy, and mission of the Food Bank.
  6. Prepare reports as required by the supervisor and funding sources in a timely and accurate manner.
  7. Manage and maintain the program’s volunteer software system for required volunteer communication and organizational reporting.
  8. Provide backup as needed to volunteers and program staff.
  9. With team support recruit, train, and develop ongoing recognition for program volunteers. Coordinate with community organizations regarding the participation of volunteers and recognition.
  10. At the assigned location maintain facility floor space to provide a safe and organized working space.
  11. Support the site supervisor in inventory adjustment and ordering food for distribution.
  12. Supporting our green business practices around recycling of plastic, pressed paper, cardboard, and food waste
  13. Serve as an active Food Bank staff member, including participation in meetings, training, fundraising efforts, and other planned activities.
  14. Other duties as assigned.

 

 

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS:

  • 1-year supervisory experience
  • 1-year experience large-scale client management and/or social service
  • A minimum of three years’ work experience in non-profit agency program provision, or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Considerable knowledge of the mission, objectives, policies, programs and procedures of the Thurston County Food Bank; of the principles and practices of non-profit organizations.
  • Ability to recruit, train, and supervise volunteers.
  • The ability to work in a fast paced, changing environment, with flexibility/adaptability.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and to develop solutions to problems with limited supervision.
  • Good organizational skills and detailed orientated.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Experience with public speaking, training and/or teaching adults/volunteers.
  • Reliable transportation and a valid Washington State drivers license (or ability to obtain within 60 days).
  • Food Handler’s permit or ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire (TCFB will cover this cost)


      COMPUTER/TECHNOLOGY SKILLS/EQUIPMENT/SOFTWARE SKILLS:


    • Demonstrates ability to use Microsoft Office
    • Demonstrate ability to use or learn CRM

     

     

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    Manual dexterity and physical ability to perform tasks (i.e. repeated living up to 50 pounds, continual standing, reaching, bending, and walking).  Nature of work requires an ability to effectively communicate and exchange information, collect, compile and prepare work documents operating standard business office equipment and software. Occasional travel by automobile is required for position responsibilities and/or training.

    COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

    • Full-time: 40 hours per week
    • Salary:  $28.94 - $31.62/hourly starting wage (d.o.e.), $28.94 - $40.06 hourly full salary range (svc yr based)
