Job Description

TAX SENIOR/SUPERVISOR NOVATO

Client is currently actively recruiting for a Tax Senior/Supervisor based out of our Novato, California office.

Details of the position are as follows:

Position Description

This role requires an experienced Senior/Supervisor. In this capacity, you will be in charge of overseeing a wide range of accounting and tax activities. You will be responsible for complicated projects and assess somewhat complex work done by others, offering feedback. You will also oversee, train, and coach staff members and less experienced senior accountants. You will build significant relationships with the Firm's clients and contribute to planning initiatives. You will actively strive to implement the firm's customer retention initiatives, ensuring that clients are extremely pleased and recognizing possibilities to increase services.

This role allows for quick growth and promotion to Manager and higher.

Location

While we would accept applicants that are entirely remote in the Pacific and Central time zones, we have a strong preference for a local candidate who can work from our Novato, CA office at least part-time.

Compensation

This position has a base salary in the $95,000 - $115,000 range annually.

In addition, we provide two pools of possible extra remuneration for meeting yearly chargeable hour targets (CHIP Program) and performance development goals (PMP Program). The CHIP program pool is from $10,000 to $13,000 per year, whereas the PMP pool ranges from $7,000 to $10,000.

These pools would be prorated the first year.

Education, Licensing and Experience

  • The candidate must have at least 3 years of increasingly responsible experience with a public accounting firm; 4 years of experience is recommended.
  • The candidate must hold a Bachelor's Degree with a major or specialization in accounting, taxation, or a comparable subject.
  • The candidate must have a valid and current CPA license.
  • The candidate must be legally permitted to work in the United States for any employer.
  • Following receipt of a conditional offer, the applicant will be asked to submit to a criminal background check.Qualified candidates with arrest and conviction records will be considered in accordance with the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance and the California Fair Chance Act.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to handle various projects, responsibilities, and deadlines while delegating correctly and successfully.
  • Strong general accounting knowledge, with extensive experience doing trial balances and sophisticated journal entries.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Experience drafting a wide range of difficult tax returns, as well as extensive examination of others' work.
  • Understanding of GAAP, widely recognized auditing standards, and commonly used audit processes and methodologies
  • Proficient in the use of the firm's standard software, such as Lacerte, ProSystems FX, and Excel.
  • Superb interpersonal and communication abilities.
  • The ability to manage time, prioritize work, and fulfill deadlines.
  • The ability to use excellent judgment and preserve secrecy when managing sensitive material.
  • Experience managing and developing people.
  • Proficiency in tax law and complicated tax research via accessible resources and platforms.
  • Technical expertise necessary to manage Staff and Senior Accountants throughout financial statement audit, review, and compilation activities, as well as the preparation of complicated tax returns.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with partners and management to provide client deliverables.
  • Prepare a wide range of sophisticated corporate, individual, partnership, fiduciary, and other tax returns under minimum supervision.
  • Review fairly difficult returns submitted by others and give feedback.
  • Work on identifying and communicating challenges and tax opportunities.
  • Supervise, coach, train, and mentor employees and senior accountants.
  • Use accessible materials and venues to demonstrate your understanding of tax law and complicated tax research. Share learned information with others and exhibit your ability to properly explain technical challenges.
  • Assist in creating engagement budgets and processing invoices.
  • Assist in allocating suitable personnel depending on engagement difficulty and staffing availability. Delegate work to others as needed and oversee allocated staff and senior accountants on client assignments and engagements.
  • Demonstrate a complete awareness of organizational rules and processes, and offer direction and training to others. Work to discover and help resolve procedural discrepancies.
  • Coach other employees based on the evaluation points identified.
  • Exhibit mastery in time management and organizational abilities. Assume responsibility for completing engagement deliverables and for communicating with clients.
  • Build and maintain connections with clients, and communicate effectively. Look for possibilities to expand your network and engage in business growth.
  • If assigned, organize, monitor, and carry out accounting engagements. Efficiently oversee all types of financial statement engagements and have the technical competence to supervise staff and senior accountants on financial statement audit, review, and compilation engagements.
  • Show a thorough grasp of the AICPA's Code of Professional Conduct, Generally Accepted Auditing Standards, and other accounting standards, including GAAP accounting.
  • Actively contribute to the development of others by participating in the Firm's Mentorship Program.
  • Develop positive connections with clients and communicate effectively in order to follow up on outstanding issues or supply necessary information.
