Job Description

SUMMARY: While delivering innovative solutions, exceptional service, and trusted results, the Youth Career Coach manages a caseload of assigned customers with sensitivity to individual needs ensuring customers receive expert coaching and support necessary to reach their employment goals.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide career counseling and intensive case management services to youth customers.
  • Provide work-based learning for youth job seekers which combines education and real-life work experiences.
  • Complete intake and eligibility determination for youth. Assess youth jobseekers’ employment and training needs and abilities through interviewing, testing, and other methods.
  • Provide youth job seekers with education and supportive services, including assistance with college applications, financial aid, tutoring and enrollment into vocational training programs.
  • Provide job readiness training to youth job seekers, including job readiness training, resume building and interview skills.
  • Provide emotional and social support to youth program participants transitioning out of the foster care system, including counseling, mentoring and peer support groups
  • Provide training and support for youth job seekers, seeking careers in high growth sectors, training may include pre-apprenticeship, apprenticeship, non credit occupational skills trainings and/or post secondary education.
  • Enter data into and otherwise use and process clients through the participant information system as required, and any other database as required.
  • Guide youth jobseekers through the preparation of individual employment plans (ISS) based on their specific career and educational goals, plans should include access to mental health services, counseling and mentoring on as needed basis.
  • Counsel youth customers on the local labor market, available job opportunities, training programs, and other services provided by partners. Refer individuals to appropriate services and follow up on those activities.
  • Conduct orientation sessions, workshops, job clubs, and other group presentations.
  • Follow all policies, procedures, and regulations related to eligibility documentation; ensure that case files have originals and/or copies of eligibility documentation.
  • Maintain accurate individual case files for each registered youth customer assuring that each file contains all required eligibility documents and meets compliance requirements with all policies and procedures.
  • Develop comprehensive Individual Service Strategies (ISS) for all customers. Provide referrals as well as tracking of eligible youth customers into programs.
  • Provide twelve (12) month post-exit follow-up services for all youth customers to include retention and supportive services. Verification and recording of enrollment in post-secondary education or training and credential attainment throughout the follow-up period are required.
  • Meet and/or exceed program benchmarks, completing all required reports as required.
  • Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. The degree requirement may be substituted for eight (8) years of professional work experience.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience combining elements of training, counseling, and/or case management.
  • Possess substantial career coaching and case management experience with young adults required.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Personal computer literacy required, including effective use of the Internet, e-mail, video conferencing (Zoom, Teams) and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, sit, talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
