DB2 DBA with Mainframe - 52984

We have an immediate long-term opportunity with one of our largest clients for a position of DB2 DBA with Mainframe, to work in Cary or Charlotte, NC (Onsite).

Responsibilities:

• Manage database structure, storage allocation, access control, roles, users, and privileges on Production and Non-Production database servers.
• Monitor jobs, space utilization, and perform Db2 checkouts.
• Convert UTS for development environments and UT for production environments.
• Create Db2 objects as per request and handle DRDA requests.
• Resolve database issues and create new jobs, scheduling them as needed.
• Check and sign off on audit reports, and perform capacity planning.
• Prepare and execute SQL queries for various tasks.
• Attend system and application meetings, participating in toggle migrations and pre-DB2 migration tasks.
• Manage DB2 version releases for Production and Non-Production Environments.
• Monitor databases daily, check error logs, log file sizes, free space, and index fragmentation.
• Create jobs, alerts, and maintenance plans to ensure smooth operation.
• Upgrade/migrate DB2 when necessary.
• Provide support for user permission management, backup/restore activities, index fragmentation, statistics updates, and database performance issues.
• Manage clustered and non-clustered indexes to optimize query performance.
• Handle space issues on both Production and Non-Production database servers.
• Document known issues by creating knowledge articles.
• Design and manage database backups, and perform performance tuning.
• Manage patches and upgrades for databases on servers.
• Troubleshoot day-to-day issues with applications.
• Configure and manage both Production and Test databases, including creating new databases.

Skills:

• Strong proficiency in DB2 database administration on Mainframe environments.
• Experience with jobs and space monitoring, Db2 checkouts, and UTS/UT conversion.
• Proficient in creating and managing Db2 objects, handling DRDA requests, and fixing database issues.
• Skilled in creating, scheduling, and managing jobs and maintenance plans.
• Ability to analyze and optimize database performance, including index management and capacity planning.
• Experience with SQL query preparation and execution for various database tasks.
• Familiarity with database backup design, management, and patch/upgrade processes.
• Knowledge of user permission management, backup/restore activities, and statistics updates.
• Strong troubleshooting skills for day-to-day application issues and space/device management.
• Ability to configure and manage both Production and Test databases, as well as create new databases.
• Excellent communication and documentation skills, including the creation of knowledge articles.
