Job Description

The Extrusion Operating Technician I is responsible for set-up and operation of extrusion and auxiliary production equipment to produce materials to specification under the guidance of the Production Shift Leader. Additional responsibilities include production efficiency, following manufacturing and safety standards and working to continuously improve the quality and productivity of extrusion operations.


Essential Accountabilities


Machine operation

  1. Set-up, operate and troubleshoot equipment to meet product quality requirements while maintain the process control plan.
  2. Ensure maximum efficiency of set-up to include set-up time, materials, production rate and material consumption.
  3. Machine readiness - inspect machinery, equipment and die prior to set-up.
  4. Identify issues, which adversely affect product requirements and communicate with appropriate department personnel for resolution.
  5. Perform routine maintenance and cleaning
  6. Identify nonconforming materials/products and work with shift leader for resolution
  7. Issue resin material from inventory to line via computer entry.
  8. Operate a forklift to place/load resin and finished roll stock in assigned locations.

Quality

  1. Ensure part quality meets established standards
  2. Perform housekeeping duties
  3. Follow Good Manufacturing Practices
  4. Conducts material testing to verify quality specifications, records results and maintains sample library of all tested material by lot

Communication

  1. Complete all shift documentation/paperwork
  2. Shift hand-off - go over job status and updates with incoming shift

Safety

  1. Participate in safety programs
  2. Follow all established safety procedures
  3. Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment


Minimum Qualifications

One (1) year manufacturing or related experience, mechanical aptitude; ability to read, write and speak English to meet training, safety and quality requirements. Must be able to pass forklift certification program upon hire.


Desired Skills

Prior machine operation experience; fork lift experience; training in Statistical Process Control and Quality Systems; basic computer knowledge and understanding of menu-driven computer applications.

Equipment/Tools Used:

Extrusion / thermoforming machines and auxiliary equipment, computer, controls, measurement equipment, forklift, hand tools and hoist.


Physical Requirements:

Normal Office: recording quality checks and incoming material inspections, Oracle and tag transactions - 1-2 hours/day

Light Work (lifting up to 10 lbs): using hand tools (frequently) and deckle changes (1 hour per day)

Medium Work (lifting 11 - 30 lbs): filling silicone applicator, emptying waste water, shovel resin/flake - occasionally 1-2 hours per day

Heavy Work (lift 31-50 lbs.): Frequently (12 times/day) - winder/slitter during roll change

Very Heavy Work (lift over 50 lbs): Occasionally (1 time/day) - Machine parts during PM's Other Physical Requirements: Bending, stooping, climbing platforms and mezzanines, reaching, twisting, standing for long periods of time, see and hear alarm signals. Ability to identify color variation in materials

Mental Requirements:

Reading, writing, calculating, interpersonal skills, reasoning/analysis, works with minimal supervision
