Position Title: Vocational Counselor
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
Supervisor: Clinical Supervisor
Positions Supervised: None
Anticipated Hours: Full-Time: 35 hours per week
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in either counseling, psychology, sociology, or otherwise related field with a minimum of two years of experience in the career counseling of clients with alcohol/substance abuse problems and/or clients from other disadvantaged populations
Desired Qualifications: • Masters degree in Vocational Rehabilitation, or related field of rehabilitation psychology; or • Masters degree in any counseling or psychology specialization, with one year of experience in the career counseling of clients with alcohol/substance abuse problems and/or clients from other disadvantaged populations; or • Rehabilitation Counseling Masters Degree student supervised by a CRC.
Knowledge:
A basic understanding of addiction & recovery issues is essential. Knowledge of vocational/job skills training as related to addiction/recovery is essential. Knowledge of group process, strength-based principles of treatment, and a person-centered approach is desired
Skills:
Excellent interpersonal skills, effective written and verbal communication skills, ability to multi-task, crisis intervention skills, group skills, ability to maintain healthy & appropriate treatment boundaries, utilization of computer for documentation and communication, able to be a proactive team player, and able to represent the agency well.
Key Tasks:
1. Facilitate Vocational psycho-educational groups ranging from small classes to larger didactic sessions.
2. Attain a base level of competence in the tenets of the Matrix Model and provide behavioral coaching to clients within this framework.
3. Implement existing curricula and develop additional group material as needed. Ideally, curricula should engage clients in vocational goal setting and support individual treatment planning activities.
4. Facilitate additional groups as necessary and maintain the overall treatment structure of the unit (teach clients about behavioral expectations, observe and report clinically significant behaviors to the Clinical Team, thus ensuring the safety of all in the treatment setting).
5. Demonstrated skills at being an outstanding team member. This will include conduct that at all times recognizes and supports the primacy of team needs, agendas and priorities over individual ones
