Located in Largo in the heart of Prince George’s County, our new state-of-the-art regional medical center (UM Capital Region Medical Center) will provide improved access to primary and ambulatory care services, and serve as a tertiary care center for critically ill patients. In addition, our new space will allow us to expand our offerings as a community partner to help improve the health status of Prince George’s County residents.

Job Description

Reporting to the Senior Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer, the Sr.Nursing Director provides leadership for UM Capital Region Health in developing, managing, and coordinating Trauma/Emergency Services (ED) and Behavioral Health (BH) services system-wide. Collaborates with UM Capital Senior Leadership, the Medical Directors, Trauma/ED, and BH programmatic decision-making structures, UM Capital Physicians, team members, and outside community agencies to provide state-of-the-art Trauma/ED and BH care in the community. Leads the planning, implementation, directing, monitoring, and promotion of all current and new Trauma/ED and BH programs and services. Is responsible for leading the strategic and business planning initiatives in collaboration with the Medical Director, Trauma/ED, and BH stakeholders: formulating budgets and ensuring appropriate profitability and revenue maximization for the service line; developing and implementing appropriate marketing and promotional tools to communicate the core messages of the Trauma/ED and BH service lines; managing human resources in a cost-effective and supportive manner; and developing and monitoring Trauma/ED and BH outcome data, (i.e., service, cost, clinical outcomes). Directs the development of standards, policies, and procedures, develops and maintains ongoing performance improvement activities, and ensures compliance with standards set by regulatory agencies. 

1. Management of Human Resources

  • Serves as a role model for leadership to all appropriate departments/services in the Trauma/Emergency Services and Behavioral Health Service Lines.
  • Oversees all Trauma/Emergency Services and Behavioral Health programs and achieves accreditation requirements

2. Management of Financial Resources

  • Formulates operating and capital budgets, ensuring appropriate service line profitability and revenue maximization.

3. Interdisciplinary Team Development

  • Creates and facilitates the interdisciplinary team process to ensure comprehensive service delivery and the continuum for patients and their families.
  • Promotes opportunities for the Team to understand the vision for the Trauma/ED and BH services lines and reinforces team efforts that work for the good of the team/program, rather than an individual agenda or department.

4. Medical Staff Interface

  • Maintains a high profile with the medical staff by working closely with the Medical Director and independently with physicians, as appropriate, to ensure that physicians' and hospitals' needs are being met for quality of care, new services/technology, and maximization reimbursement and cost control.
  • Communicates regularly with medical staff audiences to ensure “buy-in” for the vision of the program.
  • Actively participates in physician networking strategies.

5. Cross-Functional Liaison

  • Communicates the vision for Trauma/ED and Behavioral Health Services and ensures understanding with all ancillary or support departments integral to the operations of the departments.
  • Monitors and ensures attainment of program goals for volume, service, outcome, and cost targets with all departments in the service line, including those reporting through a matrix structure.

6. Data Management

  • Understands and effectively utilizes multiple data resources, e.g., hospital information systems, to monitor all appropriate service, cost, and clinical outcome data.
  • Incorporates data in an ongoing manner into strategic and operational plans for the service line and monitors progress with outcome measures.
  •  Analyzes operational data and prepares ongoing assessment reports for Administration.

7. Marketing/Promotion

  • Leads all market research and promotional activities to ensure the message is consistent with the program's vision.
  • Seeks ongoing opportunities to hear, evaluate and incorporate input from all customers-patients, families, community physicians, fund-raising organizations, and team members.
  • Serves and participates on appropriate external organizations committees/activities and pertinent community events/venues to maximize community awareness, support, and engagement in maximizing the Trauma/ED and Behavioral Health Service Lines.
  • Demonstrates professionalism; competence; and open communication style; high integrity; energy, creativity, diplomacy; and flexibility.
  • Leads by example; maintains high personal standards for customer satisfaction, productivity, learning, cooperation, responsiveness, and optimism.
  • Demonstrates interpersonal skills appropriate to the age/developmental stage of the patient, family, and/or visitor.

8. Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Licensure/Certification/Registration
    • Required: Current license in good standing as a Registered Nurse in Maryland or a compact state.
  • Education/Knowledge
    • Master of Science in Nursing and/or Business, Health Services Administration
  • Applicable Experience
    • Required: 5 - 7 years of progressive leadership
