Project FIND's mission is to provide low- and moderate-income and homeless seniors with the services and support they need to enrich their lives and live independently. Today Project FIND operates three supportive housing residences that are home to about 600 people and four older adult centers with over 3,000 members. Our members and residents range from the healthy and active to the frail and homebound to the homeless. For all these men and women, Project FIND is a critical resource, providing housing, meals, and programs that help individuals navigate the challenges of aging by encouraging community engagement and healthy living. Job Summary:

Reporting to the Director of Facilities and Maintenance, the Handyperson is responsible for minor building and grounds repairs and preventive maintenance of Project FIND apartment buildings.

General Responsibilities:

  • Cleans rooms by discarding old furniture, beds and other debris.
  • Prepares rooms for painting and paints rooms and bathrooms.
  • Cleans and polishes floors, installs new furniture and appliances.
  • Performs minor carpentry, plumbing and plastering work.
  • Ensure proper operation of absorption air conditioning system, steam boilers, fan coil units, cooling towers and package air conditioning units.
  • Inspects building and its equipment and performs preventive maintenance to ensure that all are in proper working condition.
  • Adjust and makes minor repairs of furniture, office equipment, door closer, gravity hinges, sheetrock, faucets, drains, doors, etc.
  • Assists with apartment preparation to make rooms move-in ready, as needed.
  • Performs locksmithing and light carpentry duties as needed in the building.
  • Responsible for cleaning and maintaining the building. This includes sweeping, mopping floors and stairs.
  • Assists on Striping, waxes, and buffs floors.
  • Assists to ensure they are placed out for pickup based upon sanitation schedule Sweeps and cleans sidewalks and planters, hoses sidewalk with pressure washer.
  • Assists in removal of snow and ice during the winter and spreads de-icer to prevent slipping.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor.


Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Ability to sit, walk and stand for numerous hours.
  • Ability to lift packages and other items up to 10 pounds.
  • Excellent customer service skills and ability to establish and maintain polite, professional and effective working relationships with all contacts during the performance of duties.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Show initiative and be responsible for follow through.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information, as related to position.
  • Basic level computer skills; Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Demonstrated flexibility with ability to change priorities with limited notice including working overtime and being available to work with little notice.


Schedule:

Monday-Friday from 8:30am-4:30pm. Please note this position requires the availability and flexibility to occasionally work some weekends and holidays.

Project FIND participates in E-Verify, which confirms employment authorization through an electronic database maintained by the Social Security Administration and Department of Homeland Security.
