At the San Diego Rescue Mission, we are driven by a profound belief in compassion, service, and the transformative power of Jesus' love. Our mission goes beyond charity; it is a calling to love our neighbors and provide hope and healing to those experiencing homelessness. We are committed to creating a holistic approach to recovery and rehabilitation, ensuring that our programs serve as safe havens for men, women, and children in need.

The Associate Director plays a crucial role in the management and operation of the Lighthouse, ensuring the delivery of high-quality housing and supportive services. This position involves direct leadership of the Community Life Ambassadors (CLAs) and administrative oversight, ensuring both staff and guest adherence to our mission, vision, and values. Reporting directly to the Program Director, the Associate Director is a cornerstone in both strategic planning and daily operations within the center.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership and Supervision: Provide leadership for all CLAs on duty. Supervise, train, and develop shelter staff to enhance their professional skills and ensure effective service delivery. Conduct performance evaluations and oversee staff development initiatives.
  • Program Management: Assist in managing the Lighthouse's operations and staff. Lead the development and implementation of program strategies that support guest independence and compliance. Oversee guest services, ensuring engaging ministry and relational connections.
  • Compliance and Safety: Ensure the facility adheres to all safety and health regulations. Lead all inspections and implement systems that surpass public policy standards. Regularly update and audit guest documentation to reflect comprehensive case management practices.
  • Strategic Planning: Collaborate with the Program Director to identify essential program data and outcomes, develop reporting templates, and analyze program effectiveness. Participate in strategic planning sessions to align program goals with organizational objectives.
  • Community and Internal Relations: Maintain effective communications with community partners and coordinate events and training sessions. Facilitate various internal meetings and support after-hours program operations as needed.
  • Administrative Duties: Manage administrative tasks including documentation, payroll approval, and monthly reporting. Oversee data entry systems and ensure accuracy in tracking and reporting.

Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, ministry, or a related field from an accredited institution is required. A master's degree is preferred.
  • Experience: At least 5 years of full-time work experience with homeless, substance abusers, mentally ill, or dually diagnosed populations. Experience in program management and staff supervision is strongly preferred.
  • Skills: Strong leadership and organizational skills, proficiency in MS Office, and excellent communication skills both written and verbal. Ability to analyze budgets, manage complex tasks, and work independently or as part of a team.
  • Travel: Regular local travel may be necessary. A valid driver's license and a good driving record are required if driving is part of the job duties
