THE ORGANIZATION

POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Technology primary responsibility is to oversee the streamlined operation of the IT department and to ensure it aligns with the business objectives of the organization. The Director of IT will plan, coordinate, direct and design all operational activities of the department, as well as provide direction and support for IT solutions that enhance mission-critical business operations. The Director of IT will work closely with decision makers in other departments to identify, recommend, develop, implement, and support cost-effective technology solutions for all aspects of the organization. The IT director will be sitting for extended periods of time. In addition, the dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other computer components are required. Lifting and transporting of heavy to moderately heavy objects such as computers and peripherals. The individual will also be on-call no more than two weeks per month.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Planning

  • Formulate and deploy long-term strategic plans for acquiring and enabling efficient and cost-effective information processing technologies.
  • Manage IT department operational and strategic planning, including business requirements, project planning, and organizing and negotiating the allocation of resources.
  • Where necessary, re-engineer applications support to ensure it aligns with business processes, tactical planning, and strategic vision.

Project/Process Management

  • Proven abilities in project management, budget management, change management and strategic planning. Provide leadership and direction to team members.

Information Systems Efficiencies

  • Develop and review budgets from IT and ensure they comply with stated goals, guidelines, and objectives.
  • Review performance of IT systems to determine operating costs, productivity levels, and upgrade requirements.
  • Benchmark, analyze, report on, and make recommendations for the improvement of the IT infrastructure and IT systems.
  • Develops stated requirements for servers and or desktops and procures them through the appropriate vendor.
  • Develop business case justifications and cost/benefit analyses for IT spending and initiatives.
  • Direct research on potential technology solutions and implementations in support of new initiatives, opportunities, and procurement efforts.

Service Delivery

  • Capability to manage through conflicting priorities and resource allocation decisions and bring teams to consensus.
  • Manages the deployment, monitoring, maintenance, upgrade, and support of all IS systems, including servers, PCs, operating systems, hardware, software, VOIP, copier, fax, security, audiovisual systems, and peripherals.
  • Oversee end-user services, including help desk and technical support services.
  • Develop and implement all IT policies and procedures, including those for architecture, security, disaster recovery, standards, purchasing, and service provision.
  • Oversee negotiation and administration of vendor, outsourcer, and consultant contracts and service agreements.

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • BS Degree in Computer Engineering or equivalent work experience/technical training. The individual must possess or be working towards certifications in the IT industry.
  • 10-12 years of appropriate information management-related experience.
  • Working knowledge of quality and compliance requirements in the field of healthcare and how to apply them to information management processes and functions.
  • Must possess effective interpersonal and relationship-building skills as well as strong written and oral communication skills and possess the necessary math proficiencies to work appropriately in the position.
  • Excellent knowledge of technology environments, including telecommunications, networks, programming, media, and desk tops.
  • Solid understanding of computer systems characteristics, features and integration capabilities.
  • A working technical knowledge of current in-house operating systems and software applications.
  • Ability to operate tools, components, and peripheral accessories, read and understand technical manuals, procedural documentation and OEM guides.
  • Must be able to conduct research into software products and issues as required.
