KIPP Jacksonville Public Schools is part of the KIPP national network. In the 2024-25 school year, the KIPP Jacksonville region will be comprised of four schools educating more than 3,000 students, kindergarten through twelfth grade in the North and West sides of Jacksonville, Florida.
KIPP Impact Academy: Kindergarten - 4th grade, 6th - 8th grade
KIPP VOICE Academy: Kindergarten - 8th grade
KIPP Bessie Coleman Academy: Kindergarten - 8th grade
KIPP Bold City High School: 9th - 12th grade
For the current school year, teachers at KIPP Jacksonville Public Schools work the following hours Monday through Friday and may have occasional meetings or special school events outside of these hours. Hours for teachers and students may vary slightly by school.
K-8 Staff: 7:30am - 4:30pm K-8 Students: 8:00am - 3:30pm, Wednesday K-8 dismissal is at 1:30pm
High School Staff: 6:45am - 3:45pm, High School Students: 7:15am - 2:30pm, Wednesday High School dismissal is at 12:30pm.
Every Wednesday is a student early release day, which allows teachers to participate in weekly professional development and content team meetings. *This doesn’t include Wellness Wednesdays when all staff leave at student dismissal.

Job DescriptionThis position will be based in our regional offices in Jacksonville, FL. The position may, at times, be virtual but the expectation is that the position would primarily be face-to-face.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Director of Human Resources (DHR) is the leader of the HR department for the organization and will establish a vision and goals for the KIPP Jacksonville Public Schools network that allows all employees to work at optimal levels. This position, which currently reports to the CEO/Executive Director, will be forward-thinking and refine existing structures and priorities to accommodate the organization’s growth plan. The DHR will oversee all KIPP Jacksonville policies, documentation, and the execution of human resources-related items to be in full compliance with local, state, and federal requirements. In addition to larger projects and strategy, the DHR will oversee the HR team and thereby the day-to-day operations of all HR services with a customer-service and equity lens, including but not limited to: onboarding/offboarding, employee relations, compensation, leave administration, and compliance.
This role will focus primarily in the following areas:
Human Resources policy refinement and implementation, including compliance
HRIS high-level management and all data reporting
Strategy around employee benefits
Partnership with senior leadership team on projects related to talent, compensation and retention, etc.
Managing the HR team and oversee day-to-day operations
Setting a vision for executing an excellent onboarding/offboarding process for employees
Success would be measured by creating forward-thinking, streamlined HR processes that work when the organization is fully grown, employee handbook refinement and implementation, advanced data reporting, collaboration and execution of strategies that help the organization retain talent, and keeping the organization in full compliance with district, local, state, and federal compliance.

The DHR is a full-time role on the Shared Services team which oversees four schools currently. As a member of the Shared Services team, this individual would be responsible for doing whatever it takes to ensure that students develop the knowledge, skills, and character strengths they need to succeed throughout their education and in the competitive world beyond.
This position is year-round and performs duties as assigned by their manager. Typical hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. but can vary based on role and season. Occasional after hours meetings may be necessary.
SPECIFIC DUTIES
Onboarding/Certification/Contracts:
Set a vision for our HRIS that includes complex reporting capabilities on certification, hiring/exiting, compensation, length of service, etc.
Formalize and automate the organization’s use of our HRIS, Paycor
Create total compensation statements for all new hires
Set clear certification compliance deadlines and partner with talent on teacher certification eligibility tracking.
Set a vision for a comprehensive onboarding plan
Communicate HR data to relevant stakeholders
Benefits/HRIS:
Own the relationship with insurance brokers to drive open enrollment of health benefits and oversee benefit maintenance as needed for medical, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, etc.
Run wellness initiatives for all employees at least twice per school year
Work with the finance team to make sure benefit billing is accurate as well as oversee that all unpaid leave, benefit deductions, retirement, stipend, etc. are accurate on payroll
Compliance:
Ensure the team maintains accurate records in HRIS, district-mandated platforms, and for the KIPP Foundation
Oversee the team to perform internal audits of all personnel records to meet district, local, state and federal compliance. This includes working with insurance carriers and brokers to ensure KIPP Jacksonville Schools is in compliance
Ensure KIPP Jacksonville’s HR policies and procedures comply with Federal and state laws and represent HR’s best practices
General Employee Support:
Manage the Human Resources team which oversees the following but is not limited to:
Create and monitor outstanding offers
Orient all new hires to include paperwork collection, fingerprinting coordination, and certification set-up to ensure they are prepared for school-based onboarding with a high level of excellence
Onboard and track hours for any part-time employees
Employee benefits and retirement maintenance is timely and accurate
Employee requests for verifications and certification requests are completed
Leave administration happens efficiently and accurately
Help support the operations and schools teams, as needed
Oversee the team meeting with employees that request paid or unpaid leave and administer leave paperwork
Investigate, as needed, when reports or allegations arise
Assist with terminations, as required
Partner with Senior Leadership Team:
Review and update the Employee Handbook each year, updating policies and procedures as needed
Ensure compensation is equitable across the region
Collaborate with talent around evaluations for both school-based and regional personnel including quarterly evaluations, performance improvements plans, and scope of sequence of performance documentation
Support the teacher credentialing and qualifications process
Partner around staff retention strategies
Monitor risk management issues (student accidents/workers compensation)
Other Duties
Be an active regional team member by participating in team building, getting into schools and attending special events as needed
Other duties as assigned by the manager
COMPENSATION
Pay is commensurate on experience. The Salary band for Directors starts at $67,000.

Bachelor’s degree
A minimum of six (5) years of related work experience in Human Resources (excluding recruitment/talent acquisition)
A minimum of six (5) years of successful experience in managing human resources related team(s), excluding recruitment
Former manager/director level of HR experience –i.e. leadership experience in the field
Deep knowledge of human resources best practices and legal/compliance requirements
Comfort learning an HRIS system (Paycor) and other data systems
Understanding the importance of discretion and confidentiality, given the sensitive information this role comes into contact with
HIGHLY PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Advanced degree or certificate in human resources, business, public administration, or related field
PHR certification preferred; SPHR highly preferred OR SHRM certification
Prior HR experience in a K-12 school setting or district-level setting or experience in an entrepreneurial, growing nonprofit, public, or business organization
Prior experience with Paycor (HRIS)
