POSITION PURPOSE:

KIRO Radio is looking for a FT Night Board Operator / Content Producer. The hours for this position are Mon-Fri 6p-2a. This position will be responsible for running a live board from 7pm-10pm and overseeing automation from 10p-2a. In addition to board op responsibilities, this position will assist KIRO Nights with show prep from 6p-7p. While the station is in automation (10p-2a), this position is expected to process news material for the KIRO news desk, KIRO Shows and Mynorthwest.com.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide clerical and operations assistance to assure smooth airing of station’s programming including assuring reliable, timely, error-free delivery of terrestrial radio and digital media programming, adhering to commercial logs
  • Become an expert at our audio console and automation systems, video distribution platforms
  • Edit and post podcasts
  • Repurpose audio programs, post to blogs, and utilize other content platforms and screen incoming phone calls in a professional manner
  • Find and preview audio for use during live show
  • Edit raw audio for live, on-air use on tight deadlines
  • Smoothly coordinate input from KIRO news desk, CBS news feeds, live show host, field reporters, and external news feeds during breaking news events
  • Coordinate with overnight editor/anchor on writing and editing news scripts for use in the morning
  • Process raw and edited audio from KIRO news partners for use in KIRO news scripts and shows
  • Comb area media outlets for story ideas, coverage planning, and follow-up purposes
  • Rewrite KIRO news scripts and show highlights use on MyNorthwest.com
  • Attends evaluation sessions and staff meetings as needed

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Proven ability for accuracy and follow-through and ability to multi-task effectively
  • Willing to accept responsibility and work under moderate supervision while resolving varied problems, which require general knowledge of company’s policies and procedures
  • Writes factual and compelling news copy
  • Seamlessly records and edits audio
  • Has an understanding of journalistic standards, ethics, and expectations
  • Candidates must be reliable, dependable and able to work weekdays, overnights, weekend hours and flexible hours and able to provide coverage for last minute scheduling needs.
  • Ability to understand and execute format philosophy and work with a team of other professionals in creating a distinctive sound   
  • Ability to accept direction/feedback, incorporate into work and be flexible with changes
  • Have high attention to detail and work well with on-air deadlines
  • Develop and maintain effective communication with all co-workers and others during the

performance of assigned duties. Ability to clearly and accurately communicate, receive and interpret instructions

  • Maintain a consistent, high degree of news accuracy and station branding
  • Exhibits a thorough knowledge and understanding of the BIC “Investigative Reporting Guidelines” as well as Company Policy and FCC Rules and Regulations

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience working in media
  • Experience using NewsBoss and Zetta
  • Able to set up ISDN, Comrex, Skype, etc. and help direct technical aspects of the show
  • Digital video production skills
  • Prefer experience in operation of broadcast equipment; able to properly operate studio equipment and possess basic production skills

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Receive, process, and maintain information through oral and/or written communication effectively.
  • Substantial physical movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Ability to extend hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction with good eye and hand coordination.
