Due to this growth Baxter Auto Group is looking for a Service Technician.

Performs variety of tasks in order to evaluate, repair and overhaul automobiles, trucks and other automotive vehicles. Functions include, but are not limited to the following: Performs technical and physical diagnostic assessment to determine the malfunction. Uses a powered vehicle lift to access and assess areas of the vehicle that needs repaired, replaced or overhauled; will utilize power and hand tools to disassemble, access and perform repair work. After repair is performed a physical and technical diagnostic is done to assure proper repair is completed.

Responsibilities:

  • Complete system diagnostics and full automotive troubleshooting and testing.
  • Maintain an organized and neat shop area.
  • Road-test vehicle to ensure quality repair work was completed.
  • Comply with all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Communicate directly with service advisors regarding the status of the service work as well as the estimated time for completion so that customers can be informed.
  • Continuously learn new technical information and techniques in formal training sessions in order to stay abreast with rapidly changing automotive technology.
  • Other duties as assigned by management


  • High School Diploma or GED required; Technical School certificate preferred
  • 2 years or more of previous experience as an automotive technician preferred
  • Valid driver's license within the state you will be working along with a clean driving record
  • Must have Excellent communication skills
  • Must be detail oriented
  • Must be able to handle a high volume of duties at one time

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

-Rarely 1-5% of the time, in an 8-hour day

-Occasionally 6-33% of the time, in an 8-hour day

-Frequently 34-66% of the time, in an 8-hour day

-Continuously 67-100% of the time, in an 8-hour day

Essential Functions:

STANDING: (Remaining on one's feet in an upright position without walking). Frequent: Standing when performing repair work on motor vehicles. May be standing on stool to access components in the engine compartment. Work is performed on concrete floor. There may be oil, water, mud on the floor surface.

WALKING: - (Moving about on foot. It requires 3 consecutive steps to be considered walking) Occasional: Moving throughout the repair shop to acquire needed tools and parts. Moving around and under vehicle (on lift) to inspect the vehicle.

SITTING: (Remaining in a seated position with hips and knees bent to some extent and buttocks resting on a surface) Occasional: May sit to perform some work tasks such as brake work.

LIFTING: (Raising or lowering an object from one level to another.) Occasional: Tasks may be coupled with bending to access parts and components. Some examples include.

CLIMBING: (To Ascend or Descend apparatus or structures) Occasional: Stepping onto and off stool to access engine compartment. Climbing up/down 8 step stool or ladder for high profile vehicles.

STOOPING: (Bending the body downward and forward from a standing position by bending the spine at the hips and/or waist) Frequent: Accessing, removing, handling parts from the engine compartment. May maintain the stooped position for extended periods of time.

KNEELING: (Bending the legs at the knees to come to rest on one or both knees) Occasional:

Setting the lift under vehicles. Working on lower components of the car – removing lug nuts on vehicle

CROUCHING: (Bending the body downward and forward by bending legs at the hips and knees with simultaneous forward bending of the spine) Occasional: Making repairs on brakes; removing lug nuts.

REACHING: (Extending arms and hands away from the body in any direction. Shoulder angle must be least 45 degrees from the body to be considered reaching) Frequent: Forward reaching various objects to access, remove and replace parts. Forward reaching may consist of but not limited to: using power and hand tools.

Occasional to Frequent: Reaching above shoulder level when working underneath raised vehicle; when working in the engine compartment.

HAND USAGE: (Seizing, holding, grasping, turning, or otherwise working with the hand or hands. Fingers are involved only to the extent that they are an extension of the hand, such as to turn a switch or shift gears) Constant: Requires one or both hands to perform handling tools, lifting parts or carrying objects. Examples of tasks:

Electric Impact Tool Weight 4.5 lb. – single finger trigger 5 lb. force

Pneumatic Impact Tool (weight 4.5 lb.) – single finger trigger 7 lb. force

Air Grinder (weight 1/2 lb.) - 2-3 finger trigger 1 lb. force.

Air cut-off tool (weight 5 lb.) – 2 finger trigger 2 lb. force.

Pinching demonstrated when using nuts, bolts and other components.

CRAWLING: (Moving about on hands and knees, hands and feet or on the abdomen) Rarely

Setting the vehicle lift on smaller or lower profiled vehicles.

AWKWARD POSTURE - May assume back lying posture to access areas of the vehicles such as electronics under the dashboard.

HAND/FOOT CONTROLS: use of transmission jack (foot pump), tire lift jack (hand); operating vehicles

PPE's: Hearing Protection. Additional PPE's dependent upon activities such as welding, grinding etc.
