Dental Assistant

We are currently seeking a full time Dental Assistant to join our growing team in Gardendale, Alabama. We serve all demographics and ages, and we operate a busy office with high, but well-managed, levels of traffic. In addition to preventive care appointments and scheduled procedures, we accept walk-ins and take emergency calls. The ideal candidate will have a calm, reassuring, and friendly demeanor as well as the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Assisting the dentist during a variety of treatment procedures

• Taking and developing dental radiographs (x-rays)

• Asking about patient's medical history and taking blood pressure and pulse

• Serving as an infection control officer, developing infection control protocol and preparing and sterilizing instruments and equipment

• Helping patients feel comfortable before, during, and after dental treatment

• Providing patients with instructions for oral care following surgery or other dental treatment procedures, such as the placement of a filling.

• Teaching patients appropriate oral hygiene strategies to maintain oral health

• Taking impressions of patients' teeth for study casts

• Performing office management tasks that often require the use of a personal computer

• Communicating with patients and suppliers (e.g. scheduling appointments answering the telephone, billing and ordering supplies)

• Additional responsibilities as needed

Requirements

• At least 1 year of experience assisting in a dental office or clinic

• Excellent verbal communication skills

• Basic understanding and knowledge of HIPAA privacy rules

• Current CPR certification

• At least 1 professional reference
