Mid-Level Resiliency Planner/Designer

Logan Simpson has an opening for a regular full-time Mid-Level Resiliency Planner to work out of one of our offices in Tempe, Flagstaff or Tucson, Arizona; Salt Lake City, Utah; or Fort Collins, Colorado. 

Responsibilities Include: 

• Providing resilience planning and design services to disaster-prone and disadvantaged communities throughout the Rocky Mountains, Western United States, and Alaska. 

• Communication, public speaking and presentations with clients and agencies including to City Councils, Planning Commissions, Tribal Councils, etc. 
• Developing a diverse array of resilience strategies and climate adaptation plans; site design concepts; comprehensive/general plans, studies, and reports; land use ordinances; design guidelines and manuals. 
• Researching hazard, mitigation, and resilience policy and design solutions, collecting relevant data for public sector projects, and executing technical studies and analytical processes.   
• Acting as Project Manager for multi-disciplinary projects with remote teams, creating and executing scopes, schedules, budgets and deliverables. 
• Leading consensus-building processes, including small group and public event facilitation, public awareness campaigns, comment resolution for draft deliverables, duties as required.   

Position Requires: 

• Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Planning, Urban Design, Landscape Architecture, Sustainability, Environmental Engineering, Law, or closely related field 
• Demonstrated expertise in supporting disaster-prone and disadvantaged communities with emphasis on hazards facing the Rocky Mountains and Western United States: heat islands and extreme heat, wildfire and smoke, floods, extreme storm events, drought, and other climate impacts.  
• 5+ years of relevant consulting or agency experience 

• Versatile plan development skillset to integrate and lead any/all components of resilience planning and design presentations and reports.  
• Proficiency in GIS, Microsoft Office, and Adobe Suite 
• Excellent written and verbal communication, with strong interpersonal skills 
• Exceptional attention to detail and quality control 
• Social equity, environmental justice, tribal engagement and/or Spanish or Indigenous language skills a plus 

• Self-starters with an eye for detail, a dedication to accuracy, and a passion for not just incorporating best practices, but identifying and testing new resilience ideas, practices, and technologies, are encouraged to apply.

Compensation: 

This is a full-time position paid on a salaried basis with a hiring range of $70,000 to $100,000 annually, depending on experience and references.
