Job Description

Shipping and Receiving/Material Handler

SUMMARY:

Under the general supervision of the Warehouse Manager, the Shipping and Receiving/Material Handler position will assist in maintaining the integrity of the organization’s inventory, supplying necessary items while maintaining accurate records of all inventories. This position is responsible for performing inventory control transactions which may include but are not limited to receiving, counting, inspecting, sorting, kitting, packaging, and shipping products. When not engaged in inventory control activities, this position will also provide warehousing support by performing duties such as but not limited to receiving, recording receipt of products, offloading trucks, loading trucks, picking orders, and moving, and storage of inbound and outbound finished goods and shipments.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Shipping and Receiving

  • Coordinates and schedules all outbound loads in conjunction with the production schedule.
  • Determines proper loading order and placement of product.
  • Verifies shipping documents and records any discrepancies.
  • Set up all loads to be shipped via common carrier with outside freight companies.

Coordinates routing of orders and dispatches carrier with orders and appropriate delivery instructions consistent with customer receiving times.

  • Ensures all internal/external paperwork meets all Universal as well as DOT regulations and procedures.
  • Documents any shortage on orders, investigates reasons for occurrence and informs sales and admin of the shortage.
  • Takes and acts upon all calls for tracing and/or expediting orders.
  • Maintains proper documentation and records of incoming and outgoing shipments.
  • May assist with loading and unloading material from trucks or carts.

 Warehouse

  • Operate various lifting and moving equipment including, but not limited to forklifts, reach trucks, hand tools, and other devices operated in a warehouse environment while maintaining the highest level of productivity and accuracy.
  • Verifies and counts to ensure that the quantity, description, product, material, or goods being delivered match the Purchase Order being received.
  • Checks the physical condition of products, goods, and materials being received and documents and notes any damages or discrepancies before acceptance, signature and receipt of products, goods or materials.
  • Documents any evidence of damages or shortages via photo or video documentation.
  • Receiving and recording inventory that arrives and moving the inventory to its proper bin location.
  • Locate, pick, move, and store material and equipment according to established procedures, both written and verbal
  • Picks materials off racks and or floor space and packages them for shipment.

Inventory Control

  •  Performing complete inventory checks of assigned stock and supplies weekly.
  • Assists in the accurate record keeping of inventory using the company’s warehouse management system to always identify the proper location of products.
  • Performs cycle counts based as required or requested.
  • Supports the Warehouse Manager with administrative tasks (e.g. inventory moves, inventory location, and inventory counts, etc.).
  • Assists and supports in performing a physical inventory.
  • Assessing and recording weights and dimensions of parts and equipment.
  • Ensuring all documentation related to inventory flows is complete, accurate, and filed correctly.
  • Maintains labeling system on each stock item; make sure all items received are labeled with the appropriate lot number and or serial number.
  • Reporting discrepancies between physical counts and computer records.
  • Prepare inventory documentation: this involves accurately recording type, quantity, quality, and other features of inventory for a clear understanding of the state of the inventory.
  • Ensure that inventories are constantly up to standards.
  • Ensure that whatever merchandise is received meets order specifications.
  • Oversee the constant flow of stock in and out of the warehouse facility.
  • Ensure maintenance of optimal levels of stock for availability as the need arises.
  • Ensure proper management of aging and excess stocks.
  • Respond to complaints and queries concerning inventories and products.
  • Prepare and submit inventory control reports to the Warehouse Operations Manager.
  • Attend to inquiries concerning products and inventories.
  • Monitor the inventory stock level in the warehouse facility and requests replenishment when necessary.
  • Uses scanning terminals to record and move inventory stock and inventory locations.
  • Collaborate with warehouse employees and other staff to ensure business goals are met.
  • Maintain proper documentation and records using various paper forms and computer systems.
  • Follows and complies with all safety rules and regulations.
  • Maintain individual work areas and equipment in a neat, orderly manner.
  • Detect and report improper operations, faulty equipment, defective materials, and unusual conditions to the Warehouse Operations Manager, Warehouse Lead or other management.
  • Help prepare kitting packages for assembly production.
  • Verify that the quality of the product sent outbound meets customer expectations.
  • Practice good safety and housekeeping procedures and report any safety concerns.
  • Perform inbound and outbound order fulfillment procedures using company software.
  • Complies with written policies, procedures, and work instructions.
  • Helps to maintain a clean warehouse.
  • Perform other tasks and duties as may be required or assigned.

REQUIREMENTS AND TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:

  • High School degree or GED equivalent required.
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office, including Outlook, MS Word, and MS Excel
  • Working experience in relevant computer applications and general Internet use
  • 2+ years of proven experience in logistics
  • 2+ years of inventory control experience
  • 2+ years of warehouse experience
  • 2+ years of various forklift, reach truck, and order picker, operating experience.
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Provides effective support to team member
  • Ability to analyze and research data and resolve discrepancies.
  •  Ability to employ deductive reasoning and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to seek out information and resolve issues.
  • Ability to analyze complex data and make recommendations.
  • Ability to calculate and process information quickly and accurately.
  • Effectively organize, prioritize, and handle multiple tasks to meet recurring deadlines.
  • Learn new concepts quickly and accurately.
  • Comfortable working autonomously and independently but within a team in a fast-paced environment
  • Able to share knowledge and skills to enhance the teams’ overall productivity and effectiveness.
  • Makes recommendations to the department supervisor/manager for resolving bottlenecks & problems.
  • Able to work independently and effectively with little supervision when required,
  • Demonstrates accuracy, thoroughness, effectiveness, and efficiency in carrying out new assignments.
  • Stays on task.
  • Must be able to consistently meet the Company’s expectations of attendance and punctuality.
  • Bilingual a plus.
