Job Summary:
Responsible for managing care of the adult surgical patient in roles including but not limited to: Circulating Nurse, Scrub Nurse, and Pre/Post Anesthesia Care Nurse. Must maintain current state licensure, qualifications, and current competency in perioperative nursing. Must maintain confidentiality in all matters related to patient and facility matters.
Qualifications:
Current licensure in good standing in the state of Massachusetts
1-year perioperative and PACU nursing experience within the past two years; scrub and/or circulating experience mandatory.
BLS certification is mandatory. ACLS certification is mandatory.
Responsibilities:
Circulating Nurse- Maintaining a safe and comfortable environment. Inspecting and operating surgical equipment. Care and direction of the patient and guests. Verifying the patient's identity and conduct initial and continuing patient assessments. Reviewing all medical forms and making sure forms are complete. Performing of appropriate interventional care and treatments of patients as ordered by physician. Documentation throughout surgical process. Recording and reporting of findings. Initiate emergency resuscitative measures per facility and certification protocol. Other duties involve assisting the anesthesiologist with the patient and conferring with the surgeon about special concerns and plans of care.
Scrub Nurse- Prepare the operating room for the patient. Performance and monitoring of proper aseptic technique of all members of the team during surgical operations. Assist the surgical team by donning sterile gloves and gowns as well as aid the surgeon by anticipating their needs and assisting under direction during surgery. Following the operation, the job involves clearing away the tools and cleaning of room and instrumentation for turn-over. Log pertinent information for instrumentation. Care and maintenance of sterilization equipment.
Pre Anesthesia Care Nurse- Care and direction of the patient and guests. Welcome and initiate care of the surgical patient. Verify patient identity. Take initial vital signs, start I.V.’s and perform any appropriate tests needed before surgical procedure. Documentation throughout surgical process. Recording and reporting of findings. Initiate emergency resuscitative measures per facility and certification protocol.
Post Anesthesia Care Nurse- Maintaining a safe and comfortable environment. Care and direction of the patient and guests. Care of patient immediately post operatively. Verifying the patient's identity and conduct initial and continuing patient assessments. Reviewing all medical forms and making sure forms are complete. Monitor patient mental and physical status during post-operative period. Assess patient and record and report findings. Performing of appropriate interventional care and treatments of patients as ordered by physician. Documentation throughout surgical process. Recording and reporting of findings. Initiate emergency resuscitative measures per facility and certification protocol. Other duties involve assisting the anesthesiologist with the patient and conferring with the surgeon about special concerns and plans of care. Provide individualized patient and family education and discharge planning.
