Application Scientist - Upstream

Primary responsibilities include:

- Development of mammalian cell culture at the bench scale (2-10 L).
- Execute studies to support new product development testing.
- Develop protocols and reports for processes in shake flasks, stirred tank and single-use bioreactors using ATF/TFF and other perfusion systems.
- Analyze and trouble-shoot cell culture processes by monitoring cell growth, viability, protein productivity and other cell culture metabolites.
- Design experimental plans, scale-up processes.
- Analyze experimental data, new findings, and literature review.
- Submit technical reports and give presentations internally and at scientific conferences.
- Work with other departments including R&D, field applications and sales to accomplish individual and company objectives.

Qualifications

- Minimum BS or MS in cell biology, chemical engineering, biochemistry, and related field with experience in mammalian cell culture (2+ years).
- Experience with cell counters and metabolites analyzers preferred.
- Previous hands-on experience with shaker flasks and bench scale bioreactors is required.
- Knowledge of aseptic techniques, cell culture processes, and protein analytics
- Expertise in setting up lab and pilot scale bioreactors, culturing cells and optimizing feeding and perfusion strategies.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to understand and to contribute with novel solutions.
- The ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary project teams.
- Excellent oral and written communication abilities and strong interpersonal skills to communicate with internal and external team members.
- Understanding of membrane-based filtration including hollow fiber is a plus

- Must be able to life 25 pounds on occasion.
