GENERAL PURPOSE:

The Veterinary Technician Manager is a leader and is integral to the veterinary hospital management team. The Veterinary Technician Manager partners with the management team and the Hospital Director to provide a smooth and profitable operation by creating a hospital culture based on high-quality emergency patient care and exceptional customer service. Responsibilities include managing, planning, and coordinating the hospital's overall operations and cultivating a supportive and collaborative team environment.  A Veterinary Technician Manager leads by example and exemplifies caring, compassionate, dedicated behavior and speech.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Acts as a champion for change and identifies, documents, shares, and promotes best practices.
  • Partners with the Hospital Director to establish goals for the practice and staff.
  • Ensures staff compliance with hospital policies.
  • Leads by example, following all hospital policies, and exemplifies caring, compassionate, dedicated behaviors and speech.
  • Partners with the Hospital Director to address staffing needs, including staff training, reviewing, and disciplining.
  • Provide staff with feedback as needed.
  • Demonstrates and reinforces the highest level of client service.
  • Helps resolve client issues and escalations.
  • Attends and participates in regular management meetings.
  • Properly document staff issues, feedback, and corrective actions.
  • Follows all laws, including non-disclosure laws.
  • Scheduling writing and reviewing of hours for efficient payroll processing
  • Partners with the doctor team to ensure best in class medicine.
  • Partners with the doctor team to improve efficiency in patient care.
  • Responsible for meeting and/or exceeding tech labor budget.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3-5 years of experience in a veterinary role, including customer service experience.
  • Licensed veterinary technician preferred but not required.
  • Experience in a hospital setting in positions of increased responsibility is a plus.


EXPERIENCE IN AREA:

  • Multi-functional operations, including budget and labor management.
  • Manage time and tasks appropriately and remain flexible with assigned duties.
  • Supervisory and leadership experience.
  • Problem-solving and resolution management skills.
  • Oral and written communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills, i.e. Microsoft Office suite (Previous practice management software knowledge preferred).
  • Interpersonal skills with staff and clients and works well in a team environment.
  • HR policies and protocol development.
  • Staff management, including coaching, developing, and motivating staff
  • Conduct performance appraisals.
  • Delegate responsibility and achieve results with hospital team members.
  • Make decisions confidently and effectively.
  • Model a professional and courteous manner with staff and clients.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • The position requires flexibility in scheduling and the ability to work evenings and weekends as required.
  • Contact with the public in a fast-paced, high volume, 24-hour, 7-day/week, 365-day/year medical facility.
  • Physical activity to include walking, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, reaching, lifting (up to 30 lbs.), and prolonged sitting and standing periods may be required.
  • Visual acuity sufficient to maintain accurate records; recognize people and understand written directions.
  • Ability to speak and hear sufficiently to understand and give information in person and over the telephone.
  • Fine motor skills adequate for utilizing office equipment such as facsimile machines, copiers, and computer keyboards.
