Job Description:
As a CNC Machinist (Gear Specialist), you will be responsible for setting up, programming, and operating CNC machines to produce precision gears according to engineering specifications and quality standards. You will utilize your expertise in gear manufacturing processes, including hobbing, shaping, grinding, and milling, to produce high-quality gears with tight tolerances and excellent surface finish. Your attention to detail, technical proficiency, and problem-solving skills will be essential in ensuring the efficiency, accuracy, and reliability of our gear manufacturing operations.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Set up and operate CNC gear-cutting machines, including gear hobbers, shapers, grinders, and milling machines.
- Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine machining requirements and dimensions for gears.
- Program CNC machines using CAM software to generate tool paths, optimize cutting parameters, and achieve desired gear profiles.
- Perform tooling and fixture setups, including tool selection, workpiece alignment, and machine calibration, to ensure accurate and efficient machining operations.
- Monitor machine operation, including cutting speeds, feeds, and tool wear, to maintain process stability and achieve optimal production output.
- Conduct in-process inspections using precision measuring instruments, such as micrometers, calipers, and CMMs, to verify dimensional accuracy and quality of finished gears.
- Troubleshoot and resolve machining issues, such as tool breakage, surface defects, or dimensional deviations, to ensure product quality and meet production targets.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of work area, including routine machine maintenance, tooling changes, and chip removal, to ensure a safe and efficient working environment.
- Adhere to safety protocols and regulations to prevent accidents, injuries, and damage to equipment or materials.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or vocational training in CNC machining preferred.
- Proven experience as a CNC machinist with specialized expertise in gear manufacturing.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T symbols.
- Strong knowledge of machining processes and techniques for gear cutting, shaping, grinding, and milling.
- Experience with CNC programming and CAM software, such as Mastercam, GibbsCAM, or similar.
- Proficient in the use of precision measuring instruments and metrology tools for dimensional inspection.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot machining issues effectively.
- Detail-oriented with a focus on quality and accuracy in machining operations.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Flexibility to work rotating shifts and overtime as needed.
