Job Description

This position requires knowledge of and experience with non classroom based, hybrid, and remote special education services.

JOB TITLE: Director of Student Support


REPORTS TO: Chief Integration Officer or Admin Designee


CLASSIFICATION: Certificated/Exempt

THE OPPORTUNITY (POSITION OVERVIEW)


The Director of Student Support plans, develops, coordinates and manages iLEAD’s Student Support educational programs, and ensures compliance with state and federal regulations governing the delivery of services to learners with special needs. The Director of Student Support builds strong and effective relationships, oversees learners, and serves as a liaison, resource and support to parents, school personnel and community. The Director of Student Support will be responsible for ensuring that all students have access to the academic and social-emotional support they need to thrive in school.

WHAT YOU WILL DO (DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES)


Program Development

  • Plan, develop and implement Student Support educational programs for learners with special needs and develop strategies to achieve objectives.

  • Oversee the evaluation of Special Education Programs.

Leadership and Management

  • Provide direction and consult with Student Support staff and individual cases.

  • Resolve problems and secure resources and services.

  • Embrace and encourage the acceptance of diversity.

  • Provide and maintain an environment where optimal student growth can take place.

  • Supervise the curriculum development activities of certificated and classified Special Education staff.

  • Develop and manage budgets.

  • Recruit/Hire/Train personnel when appropriate.

  • Supervise and evaluate Student Support staff.

  • Direct case management services for students including the identification, follow-up, and individualized educational plans of students with disabilities.

  • Maintain a high level of knowledge regarding developing special education issues, changes in the laws and case law, and educational methods of educating students with disabilities, for the purpose of managing an excellent special education program.

Collaboration

  • Establish and maintain on-going communication with school Directors and special education staff.

  • Maintain effective working relationships.

  • Respond to concerns and questions from community members in a timely and professional manner.

  • Collaborate with all school personnel in sharing information about learners, consistent with legal requirements, and recommend appropriate interventions for learners with special needs.

  • Communicate information on programs, services, and regulations to school personnel and parents.

Compliance

  • Comply with rules, policies and procedures of iLEAD Schools, along with state and federal regulations pertaining to special education.

  • Ensure the implementation of state and federal regulations related to special education policies and procedures.

  • Monitor the student record system to ensure that appropriate information is kept current in student cumulative record folders as related to special education.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide ongoing support and actively collaborate with all iLEAD educational partners, Schools leaders and employees to ensure that the mission, vision, values and philosophy of iLEAD Schools is clearly understood and carried out.

  • Represent iLEAD Schools in a positive and professional manner in all interactions and communications.

  • Follow and actively participate in development of all iLEAD Schools guidelines, policies and procedures.

  • Maintain professional competence through participation in professional development activities provided by iLEAD Schools and self-selected professional growth activities.

  • Perform other responsibilities as defined by the iLEAD Schools Executive Team or Designated Supervisor.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Communicating with others to exchange information. (In Person/Telephone/Computer)

  • Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.

  • Adjusting or moving objects up to 50 pounds in all directions.

  • When needed to support a school or education program, must have the ability to travel by public transit as well as operate a vehicle for self-transportation purposes between worksites.

  • Assessing the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned.

  • May encounter outdoor elements: high (>90)/low (<60) temperatures, precipitation and/or wind.

  • Ability to work in situations involving the need to make informed and quick decisions.

  • Ability to supervise/manage workers and delegate as needed in project management situations.

  • Reading detailed documentation and analyzing data sets.

  • Writing professionally, both by hand and utilizing computer software.

  • Speaking in public settings including making public presentations to large and small groups.

  • Dealing and navigating professionally through high-stress situations.

  • May be required to be present at various school sites as needed and determined by the Designated Supervisor.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING (QUALIFICATIONS)


  • BA Degree or Master’s Degree in Special Education or equivalent education.

  • 5 years experience as program administrator.

  • Teaching and/or Administrative credential.

  • Educational Leadership.

  • Prior teaching experience with increasing levels of administrative responsibility in Special Education curriculum.

  • Excellent Oral, Written and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Knowledge of special education curriculum and programming.

  • Ability to proactively identify issues, problem solve and create action plans.

  • Maintain a professional demeanor and attitude at all times.

  • Ability to work under pressure, assess priorities and meet deadlines.

  • Experience with an education setting and/or real world experience in being non-traditional, flexible, open minded, and collaborative.

  • Very high level of personal and professional integrity and trustworthiness.

  • Thrive in a collaborative, team based and fast-paced environment.

  • Maintain confidentiality of learners and their records.

  • Establish and maintain friendly, cooperative and effective working relationships with learners, learners with special needs, parents, facilitators, care team, and administration.

  • Demonstrate standards of moral character and behavior to serve as an effective role model for learners.
