Handyman/Porter

WIEN HOUSE HANDYMAN/PORTER:

Responsible for proper upkeep, basic repairs and maintenance of a 14 story, 100 unit, government subsidized apartment building for older adults.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Perform basic electrical, mechanical, plumbing, flooring and painting work in tenant apartments and common areas.
• Help repair apartments for move ins of new tenants throughout the year including flooring tile replacement and stripping/waxing, plastering and painting, glazing and caulking and accessories repairs and/or replacement and any other repairs and replacements as necessary.
• Clean bathrooms, common areas, and hallways on a daily basis.
• Do recycling and garbage on a daily basis.
• Work orders: Follow up on all items of disrepair including painting, broken fixtures, walls, floors, ranges, smoke detectors, countertop, cabinets, closets, window, emergency pull chords, tiles, leaks.  
• Room setup and breakdown for various programs that take place throughout day.
• Keep property clean and safe at all times including removal of litter and removal of snow from walkway and backyard.
• Relate to older adult tenants politely and with positive demeanor.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Experience with plumbing and electrical systems
• Ability to work with hand and power tools
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred

Reporting to:  Wien House Facilities Manager who is supervised by the Director of Facilities

Days/Hours:  Sunday to Thursday 8 AM to 5 PM, with 1-hour unpaid lunch    

Compensation Range: 

• $41,600 to $45,760 (paid at $20 to $22 per hour) 
• Full time; Collective bargaining agreement and non-exempt
• Eligible for salary increases under the collective bargaining agreement
