Physical Therapy Assistant-Surrounding Houston Area

QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have at least an Associate’s Degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited program approved by the American Physical Therapy Association or the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation of the American Medical Association and American Physical Therapy Association. Currently licensed Physical Therapist Assistant in the state of Texas. One year experience in physical therapy care setting that requires complete physical assessment; or demonstrated ability or education in same areas is preferred.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Follows Plan of care established by Licensed Physical Therapist for each individual patient.
- Performs therapeutic procedures by administering manual exercises; instructing, encouraging, and assisting patients in performing physical activities, such as non-manual exercises, ambulatory functional activities, and daily-living activities, and in using supportive devices, such as crutches, canes, and prostheses.
- Instructs and counsels patients by describing therapeutic regimens, giving normal growth and development information; promoting wellness and health maintenance.
- Instructs patient/provides training in active/passive exercise, muscle re-education, gait/ambulation/transfer training.
- Provides continuity of care by developing and implementing patient management plans.
- Frequently evaluates home environment to eliminate structural barriers and improve safety in the home.
- Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations; adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
- Observes, records, and reports to LPT any changes in reaction to treatment and on patient's condition.
- Reports changes in condition of patient to agency's Nurse at time problem is found.
- Instructs patient in proper care of medical equipment, prosthetics, and orthopedic devices.
- Follows and re-evaluates home program established by patient by LPT.
- Prepares clinical and progress notes and submits them in a timely manner to office within end of scheduled week.
- Attends staff meetings, participates in in services, and case conferences.
- Any other duties within scope of LPTA practice established and supervised by LPT.
PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS
1. Able to bend and stand an average of 6 hours per day.
2. Able to lift 50-100 pounds.
3. Able to write up to 3 hours per day.
4. Able to work in a stressful environment.
5. Able to drive up to 60 miles per day.
6. Able to assess and communicate with ill patients, co-workers, and general public.
