Entry Position: Rights-of-Way Technician - Member of a team that removes vegetation by mechanical and chemical means along utility ROW’s

Employee Requirements: Valid driver’s license, education G.E.D. or higher or obtain a Massachusetts Pesticide License (CORE).

Must pass a pre-employment physical, drug screen and background check.

Must be able to travel away from the Athol area from Monday thru Friday most weeks. (VCS will provide lodging and a stipend for meals during required travel)

What to expect: Most entry level personnel begin by working on one of our utility ROW crews. These crews, during the summer, usually manage the vegetation by selectively removing unwanted species by using backpack sprayers to apply herbicides. During time of inclement weather and after leaf drip the chainsaw is the tool of choice. Besides ROW work we also have crews that control exotic invasive plants, perform roadside vegetation control, industrial vegetation control all through the use of herbicides.

We also have crews that specialize in mechanical control through the use of mowers and chainsaws.
