Position Summary:

The Dental Hygienist is responsible for performing dental prophylactic tasks, maintaining a client recall system, and educating clients about preventive dental health practices. School based programs run during school hours only.

Position Responsibilities

  • Responsible for providing a wide spectrum of hygiene and patient education services for White Bird Dental Clinic clients.
  • Performs dental hygiene services including charting, triage, tooth cleaning, using and maintaining hand pieces, processing radiographs, inventory maintenance, and using first aid procedures.
  • Presents client education materials and engages clients in discussion regarding the value of dental health in their overall health care program.
  • Provides home care instruction to individual clients, including proper methods of brushing and flossing.
  • Educates parents and children concerning the relationship between sweets and proper diet in an overall dental care program which stresses prevention.
  • Maintains enthusiastic chair side manner, with ability to put clinic clients at ease. Must be able to remain calm in occasional stressful situations.
  • Assists with the orientation and schedules for volunteer dental hygienists and LCC hygiene students.
  • Attends regular staff meetings and is willing to take personal initiative with regard to suggesting creative resolution of problems or issues with clinic operation.
  • Assist with client recall system, whereby patients served regularly by the staff dentist will receive ongoing hygiene services.
  • Manages development and implementation of children's caries prevention program.
  • Assist other clinic staff to achieve overall operational efficiency and provision of quality dental care services.

Required Qualifications

Associate or bachelor's degree from School or Dental Hygiene.

At Least two-year experience in a dental practice.

Experience working independently, but with a commitment to a team approach to care.

Ability to work with a wide range of clients and situations.

Willingness to participate in continuing education related to improving dental hygienist efficiency and effectiveness in a community dental clinic setting.

Able to maintain professional insurance.

Willingness to take on mobile clinics, SERBU, Bethel, Fluoride Sealant Clinics and others as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

Bilingual

Four-year college degree

Compensation Details:

This is a non-exempt position with target starting base wage of $35 per hour, paid on a bi-weekly basis.

In addition, this position qualifies for a competitive health and welfare package and generous paid time off opportunities.

This position requires successful passage of a State mandated background check.
