Job Description
POSITION DESCRIPTION
The collision refinish technician performs high-quality refinishing to collision damaged components and assemblies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
The essential duties of this position are:
• Mixes appropriate amount of liquid materials to minimize waste
• Tints colors to obtain accurate color match to the vehicle’s existing finish. Spray-out cards are a requirement for all spot jobs and may be required for some overalls as needed.
• Apply primer, sealer, color, and clearcoat to vehicle components and assemblies.
• Keep work area clean and organized.
• Keep shop equipment clean and in good working condition.
• Assist other technicians as needed for prepping vehicles for paint.
• Follow and comply with all standard operating procedures and hazardous waste disposal.
• Assist in developing or refining standard operating procedures as required.
• Follow and comply with all required health and safety requirements.
• Maintains acceptable appearance.
• Complies with and follows all scheduled work hours and attendance policies.
• Complies with the business code of conduct and other policies
• Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
• Reads work orders to confirm that the work performed matches the work order.
• Paint five or more complete work orders per weekday shift and 2 or more work orders per Saturday shift.
• Conducts quality control on every vehicle to make sure that repairs are completed correctly, and the vehicle is properly prepped prior to painting. Shoots a spray-out card for each vehicle to confirm color and gets it signed-off by management. 
• Attend shop meetings.
• Verify that all parts that are required for the vehicle are painted in one paint booth cycle. This includes new and parts that may have been removed from the vehicle for repair that will not be installed until after they are painted
• Ensures that all products are ordered and properly stocked prior to us running out. Orders should be placed a minimum of 48 hours before needed to reduce losses in production.
• Perform quality control on all vehicles prior to painting and after painting has been completed. Any issues should be resolved quickly as possible to avoid the vehicle becoming a redo. 
• Flexible hours are required of this position and may require the painter to have to stay late or work Saturday. Management will do their best to give a 24-hour notice when additional hours will be required to meet production goals.
• Assist with prepping when needed

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
The following knowledge and skills are required for this position:
• Knowledgeable of refinish products and their use and application
• Skilled in using an automotive refinish mixing system scale and software
• Skilled in tinting automotive refinish materials to obtain color match
• Skilled in applying automotive refinish materials
• Skilled in applying stripes and graphics to vehicles
• Skilled in removing surface defects from applied refinish materials
• Basic computer skills for paint computer

TRAINING AND CERTIFICATIONS
The following are suggested education and training requirements for this position:
• Certificate or degree in automotive collision repair and refinishing
• I-CAR Professional Development Program Level 1 or higher
• Paint manufacturer training and certification

REQUIRED WORK EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
Three to five years prior work experience preferred. This is not an entry level position. The position requires that the employee be proficient in following upon being hired and training will not be provided. 
• Perform blend panels that appear seamless with adjacent panels with same metallic appearance, color and clearcoat match.
• Color match vehicle’s paint and perform color corrections if needed.
• Identify imperfections in the vehicle prior to painting and repair or escalate to management. 
• BAT – Blow, Alcohol and tack. Prepare surface of vehicle prior to applying paint materials
• Ensure the vehicle is properly masked to avoid overspray and over-masking. 
• Painting two-stage and tri-stage paints is a requirement of this position. Single-stage is required as well of this position and the employee will be trained if they currently do not have knowledge of spraying single-stage. Employee is expected to be proficient in spraying Single-stage paints within 60-days of being hired. 
• Spray smooth metallic finishes without mottling. 
• Properly spray clearcoats with consistent shiny appearance, minor orange peel that is consistent throughout the vehicle, no runs or runs that can be easily fixed.
• Mixing and proper catalyzing all paint materials required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has no supervisory responsibility

WORKING CONDITIONS
The working conditions for this position include:
• Work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
• Frequently required to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to hazardous materials.
• May be requested to work overtime and weekends.
• May occasionally walk on slippery or uneven surfaces. 
• Will work on elevated surfaces on an occasional basis.
• Noise level in the work environment is frequently loud.
• May be requested to work overtime and weekends.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position has the following physical demands:
• Oral communication
• Ability to continuously stand or walk or for extended periods of time
• Frequent bending, kneeling, squatting
• Able to manipulate small hand tools and equipment
• Ability to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear; and taste or smell.
• Must have good body mechanics and manual dexterity.
• The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 75 pounds or more.  
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision,
• Ability to view computer monitor
• Ability to see colors correctly
